although they didn’t interact intimately much before the revelation of her & mangyi’s past(about their parents & how they were swapped), many things happened after that which the donghua changed completely..

The donghua only showed she stopped her father Tang something to attack tan yun back then, but that toba guy had her kidnapped.. later they rescue her when tan yun defeated toba.. but in the novel it was a long arc..
way before that she gradually started liking him then when the turmoil came and every sect was trying to destroy & take over tan yun’s sect (i forgot the name) she went back home to tang dynasty and repeatedly argued with her father not to attack tan yun’s sect instead befriend him. but he never wanted to listened to her(and he had resentments towards her cause he knew she wasn’t his real daughter though she didn’t know) still she always respected & lived him as her father very much so he gave her his word & gave a time limit that he wouldn’t attack for this many years.. but for her actions he locked her up, sealed her cultivation, for many years she suffered . she was in a very bad state that she was dying.. but one of her brother loved her very much as his little sister. so at one point he made an arrangement and met with Tan yun.. He told Tan yun how his sister felt about him & what she did for him, he told tan yun it’s because of her that his father never attacked them until now. then asked him for a favour, to give him pils to save her little sister cause she was dying.. So you can imagine with Tan yun’s personality how he would react. he gives him many pils for soul, body and other effects..

many things happened, after she was saved, thinking about the conflict between the person she loved & her father, her fathers cruel treatment towards her, she not being able to help tan yun & many other emotional wounds she left her home & drifted alone wherever her fate carried her.. eventually some demon finds her beauty attracting and kidnapped her..

After the confrontation between tan yun & Tang something theg find out about mu mangyi being a tang dynasty princes and about their past like in the donghua they settle everything & then tan yun learns about her & started looking for her.. i think they search for her many years and eventually he learns about her whereabouts and finds out a demon king or something is going to forcefully marry her..
you can imagine what happens next,, she was hoping tan yun would come to find her even though she knew it was just impossible , but somehow he really did come and rescued her and their feelings were expressed..

and before ascending to the higher realm when they were still in the first lower realm he marrid i think 5 or 7 of the girls which wasn’t added in the donghua.. she was one of them.. i still couldn’t recall many things but it’s something like this..

so they it did make sense in the novel but doesn’t in the donghua..

And yeah i loved her since the very first time she appeared, saved tan yun from the ape he later subdued in a secret realm.. it was much earlier and we didn’t know then who she was.. later we saw she was a chief of dan pavilion of the sect or something like that ..
