I had a theory after watching two seasons (S02E114) that this donghua was just the same plot told over and over (badly, too): hero gets strong, goes to a dungeon/cave/ruins to try and get stronger, meets misfortune/treachery/trickery, meets a trapped ancestor/old dude/old spirit who eventually aligns with and guides him, comes back stronger as expected and applies “sweet justice” versus his enemies (again, badly). Sure enough, with little surprise 400 episodes later, they still use the same tired tropes dressed up in not so many new ways. I guess so many suckers love this repetition, like masochists.
