Damn, of course, he can’t break through this easily, especially with that thing inside of him still being an ass even to this day. I can’t believe a little fox got the better of them, only Han Li had the better judgment as to not underestimating it. Sheesh!!! Because last week has very little contents, I decided to wait until this week. Turns out, they split 1 episode worth of contents from last 2 seasons into 2 episodes for this season.

A major theme of these two episodes is to show us the difference in atmosphere between Drifting Cloud Sect and Yellow Maple Valley. Warm vs Toxic environment.
From the prev episode, when the Waif- I mean Mu Peiling appeared and asked who is familiar with Spirit Herbs and Han Li raised his hand. Mu Peiling actually asked him if he wants to come with her or not, we can see the massive difference. As a Foundation Stage, she asked consent with the Qi Refiner (Han Li disguised himself as Qi Refiner Level 9~10)
Then her Elder’s encouraging attitude towards Han Li after learning he is False Spirit Roots, there is no hypocrisy here. The devs are trying to portray the Drifting Cloud Sect as having a more friendly environment than the toxic Yellow Maple.
Furthermore, we can see Han Li saving a wounded falcon. Forget about the Novel version which is basically a heartless Cultivation Machine, even the Donghua Han Li who has hearts, hearts even more hearts, he is still very cautious, if he don’t fell safe, he won’t help others, he will prioritize himself. Yet, he saved the wounded falcon and set it free. This is Han Li setting his mind free on a spiritual level, unlike before, he can choose to be the Han Li he buried deep inside all these years (nearly 2 centuries actually)
All these are foreshadowing the reason for Han Li’s decision later… will not elaborate to avoid spoilers for Donghua only viewers.
The Nine Gales Transformation Skill they introduced in this episode is a bird type demon skill. Monster/Demon Skills tend to have great burden on the user’s body or is physically impossible under normal circumstances. Han Li has Feng Xi’s magic wings which is a creation of Monster and human Magic Smithing fusion methods. This gives Han Li the ability to learn the skill
Not to mention the Power Levels concealment skill he learned previously was derived from a technique in the Skill: Wind Vanish Skill. So it is not unfamiliar territory for him. Then Han Li can be seen practicing the 4th Level of the Great Transformation Skill. From unsuccesfully stacking his Spirit Puppets like cards into now, he can make the Spirit Puppets play Go Chess with people or other Spirit Puppets akin like AI. He is making good progress.
Han Li backfacing Mu Peiling when she came to check the accounts is because Han Li disguised himself as a freelance Cultivator who is bad at socializing. Even when meeting the Sect Elder in the last episode, you see him pretending to be at a loss at how to greet the Elder. So here, he is just maintaining the facade.
Now Mu Peiling’s Flying Carpet has 3 mystic fishes with phoenix tail and what looks like its based off the Xiang River Goddess’s Gourd Bottle (also appeared in Black Myth Wukong)
I know the Carpet’s Phoenix Tail and the Gourd Bottle all means undying loyalty, purity, devotion and yearning for love. All these are also foreshadowing. This is why Mu Peiling don’t like her Senior Brother Feng who cannot control his love and has to drown himself in wine to escape. Girl has very high standards, problem here is this girl CAN AND HELD TO HER OWN HIGH STANDARDS.
Now talking about the 3 Sects competition. I’ll have to talk about the steamy hot episode of Han Li running into Yuan Yao bathing in the Void Palace secret chamber.
Yuan Yao’s bath water can sell for very high price. WAIT WAIT WAIT Put your knives and choppers down. I know that sounds wrong, but there’s a reason why the water can sell for good price. It’s an extremely rare Spirit Extract. In fact, without enough Spirit Extracts to fill an olympics swimming pool Han Li would’ve died of exhaustion while half-way helping Feng Xi and the other 2 Nascent Souls create the Wind Thunder Wings.
Now the 3 Sects found a naturally formed Spirit Tree that produces Spirit Extract slowly over the years. The 3 Sects Competition is to decide each Sect’s share. Han Li has a fucking swimming pool full of such Spirit Extracts.
The Spirit Extract is normally something for Nascent Soul or Super Legendary for Core Stages. Han Li has a fucking swimming pool full of these extract.
Then they can create a special Elixir (pill) which benefits Core Stages breaking through to Nascent Soul. Spirit Extract is one of the ingredients. Now something to think about: only Qi Refiners Students are allowed to participate, the reward for the 3 Sects competition is this Pill that’s for Peak Core Stage and the Ancient Sword is the one who decides when the Competition start (based off the accumulation of the Spirit Extract)
Not an exaggeration to say, it has been Ancient Sword’s one man show for many years. So it can also be said that the 3-Sect Competition is in fact, Ancient Sword Flexing at Drifting Clouds and Hundred Machinations Show especially what we heard the 2 Students who came to get Han Li and other new hopeful Mortals said in the last episode.
The Ancient Sword got the largest share of the Spirit Extract, follow by Hundred Machinations and then Drifting Clouds.
Drifting Clouds cling onto the 3rd place because it is the only Sect who knows how to make the Special Elixir. Its situation is similar to the Shu Kingdom during 3 Kingdoms era. It is only a matter of time before it falls out of the competition. But Han Li has a fucking swimming pool full of it!
Jumping to the trapping of Spirit Fox. Once again we can see people show concern about the guy who got bit, if it was Yellow Maple, chances is, unless its Han Li’s master and sibling disciples who are mostly dead by now, you’ll be lucky if the rest didn’t take the chance to kick you while you’re down. They are more friendly and caring. Han Li has a fucking swimming pool full of spirit extrac- oh wait, this is irrelevant.
Eh… Han Li runs into something similar to the necromantic abilities of Extreme Yin / Darkness but on a whole new level.
