I didn’t even notice at first that episode 177 was different from the novel, and wasn’t what fans expected.
Han Li’s reunion with the yellow valley old friends weren’t as emotional or impactful. Some characters who are supposed to be dead are somehow alive on the episode. Episode 177and 178 is getting a new modified remake version. The studio listened to the audience feedback about how the return episode after a 6 month break felt so underwhelming, especially Han Li’s reunion with the Yellow Maple Valley old friends, so Original Force Animation and the director immediately after posted an announcement that they were planning to release this version 2 of Ep 177 and 178 with added content.
Also some changes of this episode from the novel, Han Li was supposed to save the little girl when he was a foundation establishment, not Hong Fu or Wei Niang. Hong Fu status was unknown , she was supposed to be missing at this episode.
Senior brother song was supposed to be dead from failing to form his Core formation in the novel. Also , Wei Niang died from old age too. I have to give credit to @justacasual for noticing this first.
I think all this is happening Because RMJI as a franchise is extremely popular in China. Wouldn’t be surprised if it’s China’s highest viewed donghua atm. It won many awards before, won IP OF THE YEAR, have human IRL actors for motion capture, budget is in the millions for each episode.
So naturally the expectations are really high especially after they took a 6 month Hiatus. But respects to them for listening to the fans and addressing the issue, and taking action to fix it regardless of the previous episodes. I don’t think any other studio has done that before.
It seems studio is facing backlash from the fans.

China trend right now, when ep 177 went live on bilibili multiple fake/troll accounts appeared spreading rumors.
Anti-fans and coordinated troll accounts on Chinese social media (Weibo, Douyin and Bilibili) weaponized fan disappointment because of episode 177. They fabricated a rumor claiming that the core production crew had been completely replaced by an “all-female team.” The trolls argued that a female team “didn’t understand” the masculine, tactical nature of a cultivation story, blaming them entirely for the perceived drop in quality of episode 177. Trolls express disappointment was they wanted ep 177 to have less talk and more fighting like Xian Ni(Renegade Immortal)
The narrative grew toxic enough that Wang Yu Ren (the series director/screenwriter) and the animation studios of RMJI intervened:
The Clarification: The director formally debunked the rumor, confirming that the core production team remains the same diverse group of long-term creators who have built the show from the beginning.
The Legal Threat: The studio issued an official legal warning, threatening to sue the malicious accounts for defamation and online disinformation.
The Aftermath (The Trolls Disappear)
Online trolls made up a fake “all-female crew” rumor to blame women for a controversial, story-driven episode of RMJI. The director and studio threatened legal action for defamation, causing the trolls to immediately delete their accounts and run into hiding.
