Tbh, this episode is a rollercoaster of emotions and nostalgia, and I am not complaining since we rarely get to see some of this stuff in other donghuas. They don’t go back to the places they’ve been through, like Han Li here. He really appreciates the stuff that happened throughout his life, even though it was full of danger and near-death situations. That’s the life of being a cultivator/Immortal, I guess. 🥲 🥲 🥲

Heya, it’s time to suffer my essay again.
This week’s episode is the build up for the next step/event.
They start with the lower level Cultivators seated with their heads lowered ~ afraid they might see what they shouldn’t and get silenced because Han Li told them to stay in the dining hall for 2 hours.
Remember how Han Li used to be one of them? Yeah, I guess he truly lived until he became the oppressor.
From the 1st person view of the lower level, we see Han Li already finished cleaning up and left. Because the Fu Family’s Protective Formation was activated, Fu Family’s lower level Cultivators and ordinary humans are still unaware of the massacre. Naturally, the ‘friends’ would talk about dividing the Fu Family’s properties immediately after their destruction.
The reason why the low level Cultivators dare to be so brazen even though the Fools had ties with the Demonic Flames Sect also shows the true nature of the Fools’ cooperation with the Demonic Flames. Also their Nascent Souls wouldn’t mobilize to go after an unknown Nascent Soul for a Core Stage Family. Forget about the Core stages, even if the Fools are a Nascent Soul family that was killed by another Nascent Soul, they are more likely (99% ~ 100%) to come and rob the Fools and kick them while they’re down.
When Han Li arrived at the late Qi Yunxiao and Xin Ruyin’s residence, he slow down into regular flying, where instead of transforming into a streak of special effects, we can see Han Li’s person and a streak of light from his legs showing his nature (4 Elements False roots, Maining Wood) Despite being a Nascent Soul, we can see Han Li walking to his friends’ residence like an ordinary human. Nascent Soul Han Li walking into the house parallels the same way Foundation Han Li came to visit Xin Ruyin in S1 Episode 59 btw
The animators really want to make sure we know despite being a high and mighty Nascent Soul, Han Li has never changed. The difference is during Ep 59, the environment was more green while now it’s yellowed to show its age. Also in Ep 59, his friend Xin Ruyin was waiting for Han Li, but the friend is long gone. It’s very subtle, but when Han Li enters the house, we see cobwebs, then very briefly, we can see a faint green light on the door – Han Li’s wood attributes energy. Han Li cleaned the house. The bloodied box probably contains the head of the Fu Family leader.
Han Li sighed because good people and two more people he truly cared and valued has fallen victim to the toxic culture created by people in the Cultivator’s Society. Is it because being good, having basic decency is stupid? No, its the scums that turned the world this way. Hence, Han Li’s sighing.
Xin Ruyin’s last message also did not mention she went to take revenge. Either she made this before she decided to do so ~ not likely because this message is thanking Han Li for taking revenge. Then it can only mean Xin Ruyin believed that Han Li would take revenge for them. It means not only Han Li saw them as true friends, they saw him as a true friend as well and know that he will avenge them. Not telling him she went to take revenge is also to minimize the burden he has to shoulder for taking revenge for them, but Han Li found out anyway. Doing something such as taking revenge will lead to accumulation of baleful Qi because according to mythology, Qi has no attributes, it is just life energy but the negative emotions and karma as a result of doing something such as taking revenge will affect it negatively causing it to become baleful energy, doesn’t matter if your cause is good or not, Qi will get affected. Okay, enough of the depressing stuff.
Han Li obtains 2nd Nascent Soul creating skill! The Extreme Wood Spirit Baby’s virginity is in peril! Welp, once Han Li leaves, we can see Han Li turns into a streak of light, we can see clearly, the Green Bamboo Bee Cloud Sword’s traits in his travelling light. The difference between Nascent Souls and Core Stages is here. Qi Refiners can only fly for short distances and need a tool such as a sword, Foundation can fly under similar conditions for much longer. Core Stages will turn into a streak of light, primarily just a color reflecting their primary Skill element. While Nascent Souls, you can see subtle traits of their skills. Take Drifting Cloud’s other 2 Nascent Soul, one shows Earth attributes and the other shows water. They are not just colors, if you look carefully, you can see earth/dust dispersing when Chen landed, while the other guy practiced a very good evasive water skill so we see water splashing effect while Han Li we see the Green Swords and leaves scattering effects. This is spoiler territory, don’t worry, I won’t give too much details. I just want to say I look forward to seeing what Han Li’s flying effects would look like after he starts focusing on the Skill that is most suitable for him. We probably can see it by the later half of next year’s Nianfan since we have less than 20 episodes left for this year.
Moving onto Liu Yu and the Foundation Stage Scrub. Here’s a brief recap of what the Spirit Baby means for the Yuling/Spirit Enslaving Sect, the Nascent Souls in Yuling Sect created the Spirit Babies (5 for each Element in total) to increase their Nascent Soul Level War potential. Selected Core Stages would learn Special Skills that can fuse with the Spirit Baby, Liu Yu (and Yunzhi who appeared shortly) are candidates for fusion with the Wood Spirit Baby that Han Li captured. The Scrub is Liu Yu’s subordinate and was responsible for keeping watch of the Wood Spirit Baby, so he tries to push the blame to the Demonic Flame Sect in an attempt to divert the higher ups’ attention from his failure. Also the culprit who captured the Spirit Baby is most likely a Nascent Soul, the Sect sent them to track the Nascent Soul is good as sending them to their deaths. Well, they are unlikely to find any clues about the culprit’s tracks, so they will die and even if they do find clues about the culprit, this is a Nascent Soul we’re talking about, chances is the Nascent Soul will fucking murder all of them. Liu Yu and Yunzhi who are candidates can track the location of the Spirit Baby, so they can retreat in time. Either ways, Core Stages are more likely to survive a Nascent Soul than Foundation Scrubs. This is why the Scrub tries to escalate the incident into Sect vs Sect conflict, this way, the Sect will send higher levels and the situation will most likely be taken out of their hands. Though if they level up the incident, Nascent Souls will mobilize and Core Stage will be the fodders. This is why Liu Yu sneered at the Scrub because he is basically pushing her to the front to be fodder.
PS: Han Yunzhi changed so much, the only thing that tells me it’s her is the mole on her cheek. Don’t believe copy and paste this 凡人修仙传涵云芝 on google and click on the first one. As I said, Liu Yu and Yunzhi are both candidates to fuse with the Wood Spirit Baby, so don’t get fooled by their seeming harmonious relationship. This is a fucking Demonic Sect, even the nicest people will be forced to do scummy shit or be eaten alive. Take Yunzhi asking the scrub to report to her, it is clear that the scrubs are Liu Yu’s subordinate, there’s even a brief moment where we see the traditional subordinate looked at the boss (Liu Yu) with ‘Should I tell her Boss?” look, before he turn and report to Yunzhi. Basically, your rival for Executive/Manager Positive came to order your Subordinate who fucked up real bad recently to tell them how they fucked up, but in previous episode, the 4th Elder already instructed Liu Yu to work with Yunzhi, so you have to let your rival in on YOUR FAILURE. It’s looking really bad for Liu Yu. Oh and worse of all, Han Yunzhi turns out to be the only descendant of a Nascent Soul Elder in Yuling Sect, that’s how Yunzhi managed to become Core Stage despite her 3-Elements True Roots and lacking in talents (wisdom), her Ancestor exhausted large amounts of power to increase her aptitudes and help her form Core.
Han Li walking into the former address of Yellow Maple (now Ghostly Spirit Sect turf), everyone who was kind to Han Li, he remembers however small it is. The Senior at the Flying Ship scene risked offending Core Stage to protect him just because it was the right thing to do, though he failed. Foundation can’t do anything against Core Stage. Moving onto the combat. While the humanoid/apes Puppets is still able to fight some Foundation Stages, the Lizards/Alligators are borderline fodders. The Guiling Sect disciples haven’t changed. They see massive bursts of spirit Qi, then sees Puppets stationed outside the cave, thinks they are low level so there must be a similar or low level Cultivator inside the cave, this is why they attacked without warning: They wanted to kill whoever inside and steal the treasure. Too bad, a Wild “Power Levels ????????????????????” appeared! Then they all slammed into the Great Wall of Plot Armor. It’s a slaughter, nothing much to say. You simply can’t glue 1000 Foundations together and expect to leave any impression for a Nascent Soul.
Next Episode PV: We see Wang Chan and Zhong Wu again, its been a very long time. Too bad, I know at least Wang Chan’s time is almost up as well. We can also see Han Li arrived at his home which has become a rich family. Too bad, Han Li finds that none of his descendants has Spirit Roots. We are probably going to see another talking episode again.

Could Ruyin have set an auto-cleaning formation? 🧹 🌿 Even in Qi Condensation, she left a formation only late Jiedan or early Yuanying can open!
