And he is like a newly appointed Supreme Elder, so he has to take responsibility of this now, which he clearly doesn’t want to but doesn’t have a choice.
She just straight-up accepted his 2nd choice without even thinking about it. I mean, in this case, she doesn’t have much choice if that is what she is going through in life. I love it when they always do the animated version of the stuff here, that’s so cool to watch, and it doesn’t take them that much time to make it. l think the reason is to avoid to extend that matter in 2 or 3 episodes, so they cut it to save some screen time, this season is nearing it’s end so they didn’t want to add more episodes because that will be more work.

Although its time to torture yall with my essay, this episode is just setting up for the next Arc and there’s not many things to talk about.
Oh well, let’s start with Mu Peiling
Han Li was legitimately disappointed in Mu Peiling because of how selfish she acted in his perspective. But we must keep in mind that Han Li’s impression of her was based on his interactions with her 20 years ago. He has pretty much not talked to her in the last 20 years and only learned about the forced marriage recently.
We must keep in mind, especially novels readers that novel Han Li is a heartless cultivation robot for 95% of the novel with a few abrupt showings of human emotions while Donghua Han Li is more consistent with how he was like towards the end of Fanren Heavens Realm Novel, someone who acts cold hearted simply because he treasures the few connections he has with a handful few, so much that he is overly cautious in making new connections.
Since Mu Peiling didn’t know Han Li that well, even though she had supposedly spoken to him a lot during the 20 years and Han Li wasn’t the one who spoke to her, it was Silvermoon, so HL didn’t know her that well as well. Plus Han Li is suddenly revealed to be a Nascent Soul, meaning to Mu Peiling, everything she knew about him may very well be a facade.
This is why Mu Peiling was literally trembling when speaking to him at first. It was easy to mistake Han Li’s “Disciple Uncle Mu” as sarcasm.
While it is true that Han Li was upset with her for using his name the moment he became Nascent Soul, Silvermoon had apparently pleaded with him beforehand.
So Silvermoon activates “Run Silvermoon! Run!” because she has done everything she can. Whether Mu Peiling can grasp the opportunity, is up to her.
Han Li gave Mu Peiling 2 choices.
1. Becoming his Disciple, she still gains his protection and even gets to learn from him.
2. Become his concubine. Not much different from the fate that she would have if she were to be married into Feng Family.
At a glance, 1. is superior while 2. is in a way, worse than being forced to marry into the Feng Family as the wife of the only son of Elder Feng because concubine status is even lower than a wife.
Letting Mu Peiling choose is because this is something she brought upon herself and Han Li was just caught up by her debacle. She sure as hell didn’t discuss this with him… BUT it is also Han Li’s test.
A test which will tell Han Li how he should treat her.
If Mu Peiling can still shamelessly choose 1, it just means she truly didn’t care about Han Li and that she’s the kind of person who would betray you or get you killed just to save her own skin without hesitation when push comes to shove. Han Li will probably keep his word because they are from the same Sect but she can forget about his trust. She will be good as not existing to him, 1 of the 3 biggest shots in the Sect.
Choosing 2. means she is willing to accept responsibility and bear the consequences of her irresponsible action. She is going to suffer for her actions. This is consequences, this is accountability. This is trustworthy. So even if he is upset with her (which he did forgive her), it will pass and as far as HL is concerned, she deserves a 2nd chance which he will determine after observation. Which Han Li did mention to Silvermoon in this episode.
So 1. looks good in the short term, but 2. is the right choice.
Most of us only know 2. is the right choice because HL is the MC and we know he won’t ill-treat her from how he has been treating female Cultivators weaker than him since the start of this season. He wouldn’t rape them, then reach for the sledgehammer after committing the crime to subvert expections like Demonic Cultivators
This is overthinking on my part. Head Canon territories.
In Mu Peiling’s 2D flashback. We see her devoted to Cultivation. Until we see her in the Mu Family, 2 ghosts holding a veil which turns into her wedding dress, the two ghosts were crying and there’s a lot of people in the background, the words written behind the people from left to right is 4th Clan Leader, 1st Clan Leader, 2nd Clan Leader and 3rd Clan Leader. It’s probably not because Late Mu Family Leaders were forced to marry Mu Peiling into Feng Family which does not add up because as we can see, Elder Feng is not an Oppressor or douchebag. (Can’t say the same for the rest of his family, in lots of cases, the ones doing the good work are great, but people related or under them are trash). Chances are Mu and Feng Family current Family Members are douchebags, Mu Family wants to have a piece of the privileges, power and wealth (resources) that the Feng Family are enjoying because of Elder Feng’s hard work in Drifting Clouds. In the Feng Family’s case, it has been established that Elder Feng doesn’t have many years left to live. The son is just a Foundation Stage and judging from how dull-witted he behaved when Elder Feng took him to seek forgiveness with Han Li in the previous episode and how easily he nearly fell into the Dark Side of Creep, we can tell that the guy can’t make it. So Feng Family members probably want to shackle a talented Cultivator to their family so they can preserve their current privileged lives.
Long story short, I think Mu Family members wanted to sacrifice Mu Peiling to gain access to the piece of cake that the Feng Family is enjoying now and they used the name of the former Clan Leaders or Mu Peiling’s parents to force her to do so. We can tell from the fact that Mu Peiling had hinted that the young Feng’s cultivation level is weaker than her. Him, the only Son of the Highest Ranking Elder of Drifting Cloud can’t even keep up with Mu Peiling. It won’t be now, many current members of Mu Family will probably not live to see that day, but Mu Peiling is likely going to become a Core Stage Elder in the future and young Feng may never reach Core Stage. Of course the Feng Family wouldn’t mind tying themselves to Mu Peiling.
Mu Peiling’s mention of seeking freedom also reminded Han Li of Chen Qiaoqian. As stated, Donghua Han Li has a lot more emotions, so I’m no longer surprised that he wants to help Chen Qiaoqian, but couldn’t because at that time, he was in serious trouble (Wang Chan from Gui Ling/Ghostly Spirit Sect) and very weak and couldn’t do anything and was at a similar Cultivation Level as her. Now that he has the power, he chooses to help. His tone softens noticeably and gives her the bottle of pills and the Token to his Mountain. Not surprising to see Mu Peiling smile when she heard that her head was lowered, but you can still see her smile because she understands that Han Li has accepted her, giving the bottle of pills is giving her resources means Han Li is saying he has forgiven her for using him. Showing dark clouds clearing reflects Mu Peiling’s heart. A heavy burden has been lifted from her shoulders. Time for redemption.
Silvermoon saying she can understand how Mu Peiling feels is foreshadowing again.
Han Li is preparing to learn the Great Metallic 7th Star Sword Array, I’m gonna just call it the Great Geng Sword Array or Geng Sword Array from now onwards. One of the tools which allows him to obliterate Middle Stages Nascent Soul as an Early Stage. Before that, he needs 7th Star Metal… Geng Metals to optimize its attack power (so he can make Late Nascent Souls sweat as well).
He went to consult Old Chen who starts telling Han Li about how rare the metal is. Saying ordinary Cultivators can’t get it, he has to make the trip personally to help him ask around Heavenly Dao Alliance’s fellow Nascent Souls, then how timely Old Lǚ showed up the moment Old Chen opened the door and Old Lǚ didn’t bother to hide the fact that he used his Divine Sense to listen to their dialogue and he reveal that Han Li’s biggest chances of finding Geng Metals is in a major Auction/Bartering Event solely for Nascent Souls that is going to take place 2 years later. If Old Lǚ can hear their dialogue, Old Chen probably can sense him coming. Old Chen chooses that time to open the door on purpose.
I find it hard for a Nascent Soul, even one as old looking as Old Chen, to forget about a major event like the 9 Nations Alliance’s Auction designed for NASCENT SOULS like him. He is letting Han Li go in his stead. Because Han Li is their Sect’s new Elder. They probably wanted to let him represent the Drifting Clouds to show his face to the other Nascent Souls and probably would’ve asked him to go even if he didn’t come to ask Chen about the Metal. Why Old Chen didn’t mention the Auction immediately and said he go ask in the Alliance is because this is the 1st time Han Li asked for something from the Sect, they had previously promoted how much more advantageous it is for a Nascent Soul to have a Sect, mentioning the Auction which Han Li can go with or without a Sect attached to his name, it would come across as the Sect is useless to him. Old Chen mentioned the Heavenly Dao Alliance first, then said he forgot about the Auction/Barter event to tell Han Li he didn’t mean to withhold the information from him. Han Li didn’t say anything, he just quietly listened to them nor did you hear him monologue anything because even if Han Li saw through their ploy, they still gave him the answer and it’s normal they will be worried that Han Li might get disappointed with the Sect and run away. Old Lǚ and Old Chen really treat Han Li like one of their own, remember the 1st time we see these two old geezers, Old Lǚ also sat down like some ordinary bro and helped Old Chen grind the herbs. That’s their casual habits. Han Li can probably tell this is why he just listens to what they have to say.
What Old Chen said “A Nascent Soul Cultivator is the insurance for a Sect to continue existing (having say in the world).” In other words, they are hinting Han Li, as the Drifting Cloud Sect’s 1 of only 3 Great Grand Elder (youngest and have greatest potential), he has become an inseparable part of the Sect. He cannot leave the Sect easily unlike the temporary alliances he often makes with people as a Freelance Cultivator. In exchange for enjoying the privileges that comes with being a Sect’s Great Grand Elder, it is his responsibility to defend it from enemies. Strength, Background and Potential are the 3 most important factors in determining the respect a Nascent Soul commands in the Cultivator’s world.

Great Truth Sect I’m calling it Taizhen Sect from now on, it is the self-proclaimed Number 1 Righteous Faction in Tiannan. In reality, it is the Ancient Polar Truth Sect’s Branch Sect (Great Jin Empire). Though it’s been a very very long time since they split from Polar Truth Sect. Just because it is a branch Sect of something bigger, it doesn’t mean we should underestimate them. They not only have 1 Late Nascent Soul Stage, Pinnacle Yang Sage, they have 7 Nascent Souls, each having an Ancient Treasure (much like the one Han Li found from the funny troupe singer dude he fought before encountering Xuan Gu for the 1st time). A Late Nascent Soul easily qualifies as 5-10 points. Meaning Taizhen Sect is minimum 13 and this is not factoring some of the 7 might be Middle Stages. Drifting Cloud currently would be 3-4 at max.
Strongest Sect in the Demonic Faction is the Hehuan Sect that specializes in sexual debauchery and deviance where his one and only Master in Yellow Maple: Li Huayuan died trying to break defenses of Yunlu, a Nascent Soul from that Sect. With Hehuan Ancient Demon, a Late Nascent Soul and Yun Lu, currently a Middle Nascent Soul. I believe Hehuan has at least 2-3 other Nascent Souls as well.
The ‘Neutral’ 9 Nations Alliance’s strongest is the Will Manifesting Sect, I’m going to call it Huayi Sect from now on. They have about 4-5 Nascent Souls including Wei Wuya. Keep in mind that 9 Nations also accepted many of the Sects in Season 1 including Yellow Maple who abandoned Han Li in his time of need. I say ‘neutral’ because Yellow Maple and the rest of the 7 Sect Alliance it is a part of, is the textbook definition of the toxic hypocrisy that plagues their Cultivator World. Using Neutrality as a shield, twisting philosophies that are primarily good such as “There’s no such things as Evil, it depends on Users” and other stuff to justify doing as they pleases, when you call them out, they either silenced you with a gun or silenced you with a knife and play the victim. uwu I killed you to make you shut the fuck up for refuting me with facts and logic, but I’m still the victim or somethng.
As for notable Freelance/Renegade Nascent Soul Cultivator Tianheng/Heavens Resenting Old Freak was briefly mentioned by Elder Bai (Sword Guy) in the previous Tree Arc episode 154-155. He said one of the disciples who was with them in the Tree is a descendent of Old Freak TianHeng. Other Nascent Souls are not afraid of Freelance Nascent Souls because of their strengths, freelancers are probably less powerful because of no logistics. Individual Nascent Souls is like a War Machine equals to entire armies. They need logistics to fuel them to optimize their war potential. Thing is, TH the Old Freak managed to injure Pinnacle Yang Sage in a fight, though he nearly died in the process. In other words, this is someone who can injure 1 of the 3 strongest Nascent Souls and live to tell the tale, hence he is often regarded as strongest after 3 Great Nascent Souls.
Reminds me of Han Li comeback to Wen Tianren’s self-proclamation of Number 1 Core Stage “Even the So-Called Core Stage Number 1 is still a Core Stage Cultivator” Totally can see Han Li replace Core Stage with Nascent Soul.

ah right now i rewatched the part where he met qiaoqian before going away, i thought that was pretty careless on his part. he should’ve packed first before going away to meet her. after all, if not for that delay, he probably won’t get implicated with linghu ancestor and get sold with the ship of hongfu. i heard wang chan personally requested to kill him. that’s some next level shyte there. i also think that considering the situation if he has packed after and decided to pick chen qiaoqian, it’s not impossible to bring her away. but i guess if that happens, han li won’t ever meet nangong wan. nangong wan herself could even die considering what she did next. should i say, this is plot setting?
btw i just found a gem while rewatching the series. is it true that the senior brother of li huayuan, who also sold some treasures to han li, is called wang yu as in the author’s name himself? like literally special appearance? haha~

The anime version make him a bit less paranoid. In the novel, the reason why he accepted her is a bit more evil and also pervert. Also MC is way too paranoid in the novel and that’s why I stopped reading the novel. He is annoying in the novel but the anime make him quite likeable.
Don’t get me wrong but these two elders’ smile is kinda suspicious type. I doubt they are any bad though.
If anyone does not realize at the end where the map pointed at Fu Family, this was a promise 200 years ago(going back to season 2, I think) where Han li promised Qi’s wife Ruyin to take revenge or justice against the Fu Family. The couple that helped Han li’s transportation to Star Sea.
Those guys are really good. They will really help him in the time of need. And vice versa later on😊

I’m surprised by Han Li’s attitude with her, given his love for quiet, it’s way out of character for him, it’s probably more to do with pleasing audiences.
The good thing is, they might all benefit from a more lively environment.
