That’s what is confusing about their cultivation names sometimes they add either Late and then Final and then Peak, like damn fam hahaha.
it’s pretty standard though. early, mid, late, peak, half-step to next realm. it differs depending on author but this is general convention. also, rather than early, mid and late, you can have it as 1st heavenly layer to 9th heavenly layer. or maybe 13th layer of qi condensation. there might be other variants but this is what i spot the most.

Everyone’s appearance gets improved with Cultivation Level. Han Li’s base is ordinary, his appearance gets improved, everyone else, including those who were inherently more good looking gets boosted as well.

Talking about Han Li. Even Sun Huo is surprised and at first wanted to butter up to Han Li but is awkward because they are friends. We can even see female cultivators in the background pointing at Han Li. Probably have $ in their eyes. I’ve stated, Han Li’s solution to conceal his Cultivation is not taking any chances and straight up bombard anyone in his way with talismans. If he don’t need to channel his Spirit Chi, then there’s no chance of his Platinum Rank Combat Skills and Power being discovered.
Even the socially inept Hikikomori persona that Han Li sets himself up as, is meant to conceal his cultivation, to minimize the amount of talking or straight up able to don’t talk because ‘Hey! I’m not gonna talk, you should take initiative to start talking before crows starts cawing’
Talking about Du Dong
There’s a surprising amount of details to show the cunning of a spy.
Starting from the moment he runs towards his opponent, creating sparks on the ground with his spear to draw his opponent’s attention to it, his opponent isn’t stupid, she stood still to observe him because both Du Dong and Han Li are new disciples, people probably never saw them fight before.
Du Dong channelling his water element power at the last moment and swing from up to down, but did a very clever deceptive move: He changed from a 45° up to down attack to a perfect horizontal swing. It is a common mistake low Level Cultivators make which stems from the fact that they might not have adapted fully into Cultivators’ superior mobility and magical fighting abilities. Let me explain further below.
Note: even at Qi Refinement Stage, Cultivators have far greater mobility and reaction speed than normal humans. So you’ll see them get heights and attack down. The rationale is same as Aircrafts/Bombers vs Tanks. Furthermore, Cultivator Magic tend to be a blend of physical + energy that has covers an area. Since it has physical properties, dropping the attacks downwards from higher altitudes = gaining momentum advantage and looking down, they have clearer, more tactical view of the opponent, their surroundings and can see better what the opponent might be doing. You don’t need to guess what their hands are doing behind their backs if you look down from above. If you can stay up and control where you land and attack from ranged like you’re armed with firearms, eh… also take advantage of making your opponent face the sun directly… for Cultivators, the advantages is too many. This is only for dueling arenas of low levels, not the Platinum/Diamond Level that Han Li has been fighting at.
So the meta for 2 Cultivators at similar Realm and Level on a Sparring Stage that’s not too dissimilar to the ones we have in real life is to try and keep yourself at higher elevation or altitude and opponent low or on the ground. Du Dong 1st move switching direction of his swing is a common… I guess lack of experience. Then 2nd move, we see him clashing weapon with his opponent, again, you look at the swing, he could’ve made a downward swing from up… yet he swing it upwards.
This here is common sense, look at the distance between Du Dong and the girl, if Du Dong used a downward swing, the force of his attack will pull her down, even if they are evenly matched (which they aren’t), the downward impact would’ve made her paused, giving him chance to attack her further.
Instead Du Dong sent her tumbling 45° backwards to the sky. I said already, Cultivators reaction speed and mobility in the air is much higher than regular mortals. Pursuing or ranged attacks are likely going to be noticed. In fact, this is precisely what happened, the girl used her hands to take advantage of her tumbling momentum to flip upright and generate her energy shield to help block Du Dong’s attacks. Use Spear to weaken her shield, then use his Magic Artifact to beat her. He did all these, purposely make mistakes that inexperienced Qi Refiners make to draw out the fight in order to create an image of a very strong Qi Refiner who is still in the reasonable range. Du Dong is a professional spy who has done his homework. While Han Li sorta loses in this aspect because Han Li doesn’t bear any ill-intentions to the Sect.
Next, you see Drifting Cloud’s 2 Nascent Souls. The old man Chen loves to make Elixirs and is a playful old man, while Lv Luo is the straight faced one. I consider their portrayal is successful. Also the incantation is derived from Zhuang Zi’s Xiaoyao You/Carefree exploration, a Chinese Philsopher like Confucius. Yin, Yang, Wind, Rain, End and Clarity. 阴阳风雨晦明, the 晦 doesn’t mean Bad Luck in this context. Don’t go google and come screeching at me that 晦 means Bad Luck, 晦气 then bad luck, Whoever comes to screech at me about this is 晦气, their whole family is 晦气! If you don’t want to be 晦气, then don’t go learn the wrong meaning of the word in this context. The whole meaning is people’s emotions and weathers are varied and has similarities. 6 Qi and 5 Elements are closely related. Human body has 5 elements, hence the environment (6 Qi) will affect human well-being. Lack of certain nutrients, sudden change of weather etc… will affect humans. Only by mastering these changes, (obtaining Health, Wealth and Conducive environment/Home) one can truly attain the Level of True Spiritual Freedom with contradicting self-restrictions/order. Also to show the mindset of the Nascent Souls in the Drifting Clouds. No wonder they are the most tolerant.
Although Drifting Clouds is considered weakest in war potential. You have to take into consideration. Drifting Clouds expertise is making medicines and elixirs. They are more of a support type, 100s Machinations specializes in making big weapons/machines. Old Swords specialize in sword fighting, they are the 100% focused in fighting.
The reason why Old Swords use the Sword Competition to slowly whit down the other 2 Sects and 100s Machinas allow the Swords to do so is because if you combine everything in our terms, Drifting Clouds, Old Swords and 100s are equal.
Old Swords = Strongest in combat strength
100s = strongest in terms of equipment.
Drifting Clouds = Logistics and medical.
Not to say they are weak in the forte of the others. The fact that 6 Demonic Sects who were comfortable steamrolling Tiannan’s 7 Great Sects (Yellow Maples, Hidden Moon, Beast Tamers etc…)
But even when the Demonic Sects outnumbers them 2 to 1… they don’t even dare to confront Drifting Clouds, the weakest of the 3 in direct confrontation and resort to using spies.
I think they’ve been beautifying Songyu’s model throughout the episodes, especially the face. Now the strange sudden ‘politics’ I talked about becomes clearer with the talk of 6 Qi and 5 Elements between the Nascent Souls.
Basically Song Yu is showing respect to the other Core Stages because she is youngest, newest to become Core Stage and ‘volunteered’ to do the dirty work (getting humiliated). Elder Feng telling Song Yu that he’s life is coming to an end and needs to try to breakthrough to Nascent Soul. This doesn’t bold well for him. Considering Drifting Clouds is in dire needs of war potential, if he has good chance, he would’ve done it already. But this old man says he has ‘up to 20% chance’ of successful breakthrough. Meaning old man is just using the last days of his life to buy the Drifting Clouds a period of peace.
There’s a balance of freedom and order, Self-control (laws/morals) with happiness throughout the Drifting Clouds and love between the members. Truly rare in this Cultivator World.
Next we get a glimpse of Han Li drawing talismans. I guess he ran out already. If we check previous episode where he apply power as he draw the talisman, this episode we see him becoming more pro, he finishes drawing the strokes, then apply spirit power at a go. This shows a massive improvement on talisman drawing on Han Li’s part.
Note that Talismans requires Cultivator to accurately apply the spirit power into every line of the runes/drawings on the Talisman. Breaking into 2 steps like Han Li when skill proficiency is inadequate, it is redundant: i.e. You finish drawing the runes on the paper without spirit power. Then tries to apply it. You still need to apply spirit power while following the lines of the runes. Its kinda like those Wire Loop Games for lower skill level.
Han Li is so familar that he can apply his spirit power to the Talismans like a Printer. For him, its no longer a loop wire game, its a matter of finishing a page on the comp then prints the entire thing out. Well, except 1 page can only be printed once in this case.
Next Monkey finish evolving, Silvermoon teases her (yes Weeping Soul is a girl) I think she was saying “This is too much for my head. Boss! She buwwie mi!” when she couldn’t keep up with Silvermoon’s dancing. A child complaining to parent. That’s why Han Li said to give monkey a break.
Mu Peiling looked like she wants to say something. Silvermoon also said so. This is actually simple. Han Li reveal he knows how to draw talismans, has the wealth and capabilities to sustain the use of large amount of it. So he either has strong background or great talents. Why would such a potential wealthy and/or talented individual be willing to be a gardener? Mu Peiling is becoming curious about Han Li. When a girl becomes curious about a dude and she don’t disliked him, we know what is going to happen.
Getting summoned to Song Yi, we see female Cultivators talking about him with telepathy, Because Han Li’s Spiritual Consciousness very strong, he can hear the girl talk shit about him. This is why Han Li looked displeased at her but the girls don’t know he can hear their telepathy. So the girl who already didn’t have good impression of Han Li became upset with him when he looked at her with disapproval. But immediately change her attitude when she learns that Han Li might be filthy rich. Judging from his smirk, Han Li was probably amused at how quickly she changed her attitude.
Then Songyi came to put a stop to the girl who was tempted to walk down the golddigger’s path.
From her chambers, we can see what type of Cultivator Songyu is. Also what she prioritizes which lays foundation to why she can get along with Ziling. As a Cultivator, she has the Ancient China’s Bells, calligraphy equipment (even the tables), what appears to be written poems hanging from the 2nd floor. She has a lot of Scholars’ books and stuff. Note: The things Ancient China’s Scholars study were more philsophical. This means Song Yu puts more emphasis on cultivation of one’s mind. It matches the skill she practices: Clarity of Heart’s Eyes/Gaze. Allowing her to see through the hearts of disciples which even regular Core Stages have trouble hidding from.
Next we see the 100s Machinations Academ- screw this, 100 tricks… Trickers they’ll be! Even though that’s not accurate translation
You can see all the Foundation Stage Tricksters are carrying magic equipment while the Qi Refiners don’t have any.
PS: the cool looking Sword guy from Old Swords is suspicious too, asking about other Sect’s Nascent Soul the first thing he meets his ally and smirking when he realized the Nascent Soul isn’t present. Combined with previous episodes where he hears Song Yu say that Nascent Souls from other countries have infiltrated their country/territory, he smirks. What is his agenda? I know something is wrong because of the novel. But these minor details also hints that something’s up with this guy.
Next Episode, we see Mu Peiling fighting. She is using her Concubine Xiang’s Gourd as a weapon. Love is her strength.
Han Li continues to troll noobs with talismans. He even turn some of the fireballs into firebirds/phoenixes? This is a technique he learned from a Qi Refiner old Taoist from the time he was just a Foundation Stage.
A Baby looking boy who appeared is the Old Sword’s Nascent Soul Ancestor. I guess the tournament can end at next episode, after that, they go into Forbidden Grounds and its time for Han Li to become the most powerful Early Stage Nascent Soul in the world. My guess is Mid-Late August.

If you are asking whether he can fight a Middle Nascent Soul or higher in a direct confrontation at the moment, the answer is no.
If you are asking after he reach Early Nascent Soul Stage… if he has time to prepare, yes considering with extremely strict conditions, he can kill Nascent Soul monsters
Han Li was able to partially defeat 2 Rank 8 shape-shifting monsters and a rank 9 shapes-hifting monster by careful planning, like applying status effect (poison), and waiting for them to get exhausted before making a move. This is how farm-to-win players usually do in order to advance in MMOrpg games.
Remember that the Fire Drake and the Turtle were exhausted and poisoned by Han Li’s Spirit Essence plus Han Li’s Gold Devourers are simply bugged.
Hence I said, if he has time to prepare and under extremely strict conditions, he can kill Nascent Soul Monsters

Another incredible episode; the show is still putting out top-tier animation like Han Li’s talismans ^^ My only nitpick–the time fillers are still around. (that shot at 2:56 was a little too long for my taste :V), but that’s understandable. I guess it’s so the animators can take much needed breaks while letting the authors thicken the plot.
