“Are you ready for Nascent Soul?” I have been waiting for 156 freaking episodes. Record of a Mortal’s journey is officially my number 1 Donghua ATM . SHEEEESH, I REPEAT WHAT A BEAUTIFUL EPISODE. The best episode of this donghua so far.
Episode starts with Silvermoon commenting on Han Li’s poor qualifications, cause he had a hard cultivation journey. Lets not forget my boi Han Li was just a mortal and from a farming mortal village since episode 1. He is also a rogue cultivator, he didn’t get the resources handed to him like people from rich clans do. He had to work hard and find his own opportunities, and he has been on the run many times. And of course he has false spirit roots too to make it even harder. He needs to worker harder and put in more effort, as well as way more resources than a normal cultivator , just because he has false spirit roots. I think this is similar to Ye Fan’s body physique where he needs 100X more resources to cultivate. He had indeed come a long way to get to where he is today.
Looks like is whole sect is sealed and closing down cause the elders are in seclusion. Little did they know, it was actually worked to Han Li’s advantage. Dammmmm Mu Peiling is being forced to marry this asshole, who is using his dad’s influence to marry her. Brooo like really? At least use your own rizz instead of saying “my dad’s gonna reach nascent soul and he is gonna be al powerful, so you gotta marry me now.” Mu Peiling also does not realize that she has been chatting with Silvermoon disguised as Han Li this entire time that she actually thinks she has formed some kind of relationship with Han Li LMAO. You have been fooled. The real Han Li was in seclusion his entire time while you were talking with Silvermoon trolling you.
I GOT GOOSEBUMPS WHEN THE OPENING STARTED PLAYING. Do any other donghua show a Nascent Soul phenomenon like this? Of course the answer is NO. Damm what beautiful visuals when his Nascent Soul was forming, 4-color spiritual Qi and false roots phenomenon, its literally the best that I have ever seen. The entire sect including the elders are also surprised, of course they would be lol. Man just this music is giving me nostalgia, just perfect!! I already re-watched this part like 30+ times. When his giant avatar formed looking down at the disciples and roaring out loud, SHEEEEESH it’s he is sending a powerful message to everyone. I think he already conquered his heart demon, since his Nascent soul was formed. I don’t think any other cultivator forming a nascent soul had a phenomenon like this before. Now of course everyone is here and the entire sect including that sect master and the elder trying to recruit him. Hahahaha look at those 2 elders trying so hard to recruit him after finding out he has reached nascent soul in 200 years. They are having a long chat , and he needs some time to think about officially joining the sect as an elder. But that elder was talking about “heart demon”, which wasn’t shown this episode, I guess it will be shown in the next episode as a flashback or something. But let’s not forget he still has a long way to go as there are many more realms above Nascent Soul . I will post the realms below.

I wouldn’t compare him with Ye Fan. Ye Fan has too many advantages being a sacred body despite the curse of heavenly dao that he must face in order to advance forward. I wouldn’t say that he’s extremely on more advantageous position, but he got lots of cheat skills. let’s face this fact, false spirit roots are only “condemned” in the lower realm where the spiritual qi is thin af. in fact, when breaking through a certain realm called “Spatial Tempering Realm” or “Void Refining Realm”, you are required to fuse five elements into one as a prerequisite. Idk if anyone actually has this kind of giant projection when forming nascent soul. I believe you remember Man Huzi having this giant projection as well, right? But he’s mid stage nascent soul. Plus he got that heavenbearing art with him. My guess is the requirement is pretty harsh, not many people are willing to let their nascent soul out of their body for long. My take is the giant projection is a representative of immense strength, especially regarding his divine/spiritual sense being as good as late stage nascent soul (great development technique) and his magic power is as good as mid stage nascent soul (three essence revolution technique of azure essence sword art). Btw yea that heart demon was pretty dangerous, but in real world time, only a short time has passed. Why I wouldn’t appreciate it fam, I’ve watched it since the beginning they made and uploaded this masterpiece. I know some people don’t like the quality of the beginning but you really have to let things play out if you wanna know the story of our boi’s life. Of course, the quality became better as time goes by this is why patience is key when it comes to these sort of stuff. I mean BTTH Season 1 was like that low budget looking MC in the beginning and look at how it is today.
Ngl, but our boi’s story would’ve been different if during the early seasons and the first sect he joined didn’t get destroyed or raided. He won’t be who he is today fam tbh. Since he has false roots our boi would’ve needed like a lot of resource and I don’t think those sects back then could even help him. So he would’ve left eventually.

I honestly can’t remember the last time I waited this eagerly and felt this excited. All I can say is that it was amazing. I’m truly grateful to be alive at the same time as this donghua. The facial expressions, the storytelling—just breathtaking. i think all-wish.me has decent documentation from first season. for more decent looking website, i’d recommend animekai.ac, but since s1 is not complete there i’d rather choose the first one. u can start season 1 by watching remastered version. the old version has 17 ep. but they have additional 4 ep which also totalled the same 21 ep. so it’s basically just a repeated course. also there’s this special episode between season 2 and season 3, you can track them in the fandom wiki page: Han Li/Cultivation. if there’s a confusion on which is which episode, i think it’s because of the special episode. I think most of the links are actually redirect to this website other than few early ones. don’t forget they have special episode as well. actually you can check this channel in youtube called “AniMi-Asia”, they got a documentary of RMJI from season 1 to season 4 (which is now) and it’s amazing. other than that, bilibili got an official youtube channel where they documented most of han li’s adventures from ep 1 till now. enjoy!

This Ep 156 honestly felt like one of those turning-point episodes where all the build-up finally pays off. Silvermoon’s quiet sigh at the start perfectly framed just how unbelievable Han Li’s path has been—false (ruined – 毁) spiritual roots (灵根), no sect backing as casual cultivator (散修), yet carving forward with sheer precision and caution. They did skip a few great novel moments (like refining the ninecurl ginseng pill and Azure Essence Sword Art reaching its 9th layer), but the momentum carried strong. In contrast, Mu Peiling’s subplot added real emotional weight—her clan threatening her family into marriage, the fake “concern” from Yan, her frustration at being shackled when all she longs for is freedom to cultivate. Flying her carpet back toward her residence near the medicinal fields, her heart lingered on Han Li—the man who looked ordinary yet felt so elusive, whose conduct had etched a shadow in her heart. She longed for her wishful thinking to be true, but dismissed it as impossible. Just then a violent spiritual wave nearly swept her off her carpet. Startled, she grasped for an explanation: “Is it Elder Feng succeeding in forming Nascent Soul? No… that direction is not the main hall.. (那个方向.. 不是主殿) it’s the medicinal garden!” (是… 药园！)
Then came the spectacle—the sect’s grand formation stirring, cultivators unleashing treasures, and the heavens themselves roaring as Han Li’s azure golden core and four kinds of spiritual energy erupted into projection. And when he casually revealed that he had reached Nascent Soul in only 200 years, the words landed like a thunderclap, leaving even these two venerable elders scrambling to win him over, before the narrator delivered the finishing blow with quiet reverence: Han Li, Early Nascent Soul.

oh.. this ep begins Han Li reflecting on his cultivation journey and everything he has gone through. It’s summarized with a very well made poem like sentences. Moreover, the waterdrop scene is like a calm before the storm, which I believe to be the sign of the completion of Azure Essence Sword Art to the 9th level, allowing him to reach false nascent soul level. “Finally, this moment has come… Han Li, are you ready?” –> this part I believe is: the preparation against the so-called inner demon Cheng Tiankun and Lu Luo mentioned about later. Then the scene continues with him instructing Silvermoon to guard the cave formation and don’t alert him no matter how big the outside world’s matter will be. As the cave door is closing, Silvermoon is sighing to herself thinking her master is really suffering just to reach this kind of level. Just in 200+ years he already has the capability to start trying to form nascent soul. Silvermoon remarked that how difficult it must be, having false spiritual root and being a casual cultivator without anyone’s support. And as we know, usually Han Li is very thorough, if he felt his chances are low, he won’t do it. Therefore, he’s extremely precise on this kind of stuff.
btw, paused a bit and got me thinking whether Han Li actually plant a restriction on Silvermoon few eps before? I think so? I mean, he’s Han Li, the representation of extreme cautiousness~
anw, they skipped a good part of him refining a pill from the essence of the Ninecurl Spirit Ginseng (that white rabbit) and didn’t mention how his Azure Essence Sword Art finally reached 9th layer, allowing him to enter false nascent soul level. In any case, Mu Peiling got herself a bothering insect. She was just strolling and noticed that the sect’s formation is being activated, asking around as she got in the mood of appreciating events of the sect. Then, that Yan whatever guy suddenly come to her and show off those pills trying to curry favor with her.
In the novel, the description was even worse. Both clans are trying to make her marry, even if she doesn’t want to and wants to humiliate her, further by threatening her regarding her close relatives. idk if they won’t mention this later, but it’s an extremely depressing situation for Mu Peiling. It’s a shame she’s not a poison expert, if not, I reckon she already poison those who threaten her to death. But it shows how tragic cultivation world is, even her own family is turning against her. I mean, got it, big clan, there might be close and far relatives, but to think they’re using such a threat. Even if she wants to kill herself, she still need to think about her close relatives. And the guy bothering her is not just once or twice.
So.. the impression of him being worried here is rather fake. It’s more like a soft kind of threat. But I dunno, they could always change small details lol~ The Yan guy even said something like that when his father come out he will be a Nascent Soul expert. Mu Peiling’s talent is high but reaching Jiedan (Core Formation) in 30 years for her is a bit of an impossible challenge. I mean look at Han Li our boi, how long did he use to reach core formation? hehe~ It’s 113 years. I mean his age is 123, but he started cultivating at age 10. I mean, if we account his energy getting absorbed by Nangong Wan and having him to disperse himself once again so it reach the three revolutions to reach core formation.
It’s the first time seeing Mu Peiling being so angry and violent, emphasizing that she wants to practice Dao without others interference. It’s a shame she’s not Han Li. I mean, why can’t she spam pills like hell, huh? Yeah.. she then flies her carpet slowly back into her own residence, I think it should be in the same direction as medicinal garden/field. While flying, her heart is thinking about Han Li. Oh Han Li. The guy looks ordinary but felt elusive. His conducts somehow left a shadow in her heart! She longs for her wishful thinking to be true, but she thought it’s impossible. And as she continues flying, blam! A powerful spiritual energy wave hits her carpet and almost blow her away. “Is it Elder Feng who’s about to succeed forming Yuanying? Not right… that direction, is not the main hall.. it’s the medicinal garden!” (药园)
BOOM! BGM starts! Landscape changes, people are looking at the spectacular phenomena. Everyone starts activating their treasure to defend against the converging and spreading multi-colored spiritual energy pressure. Fire Dragon Child (Huo Longzi) said, “This is.. Nascent Soul’s Heavenly Sign?? Drifting Cloud Sect? Turns out to be them! Will there be a third Nascent Soul cultivator to appear?” The scene goes back to Lu Luo and Cheng Tiankun feeling flabbergasted, finally confirming that it is an outsider who’s forming nascent soul in their sect’s spiritual vein. “Should we just let them breakthrough in our sect?” Lu Luo asked. “You’re right, junior brother, just let them.” Then Cheng Tiankun proceeds mentioning inner demon’s obstacle during forming nascent soul for each of them. Honestly, Cheng Tiankun has become a gag character here. The guy’s being funny is a great change that I’m willing to pay for!
Then we’re shown Mu Peiling trying to get front row seat of the spectacle. She seems very perturbed and felt great disbelief. And now, the opening song of Fanren starts to play in a pretty slow tempo! A projection of Han Li’s azure golden core and four kind of spiritual energy surrounding it. I totally held my breath during him forming his Yuanying. Mu Peiling is staring at this scene with her arm raised to protect herself from the pressure and light, “This is… four kinds of spiritual energy… how can this be?” As she said that, four kinds of spiritual energy ball starts to converge towards the core projection and poof! Everything becomes a multicolored light particles. “It disappeared?” And silence ensues, but then… BOOM! An azure golden sword strike occurs, splitting the clouds above and Han Li managed to project his own nascent soul into a giant! Noticed firstly that he has changed his clothes! My opinion of his new clothes, looking cool dude.
I just hope they aren’t taken over by Tencent or something.. I only remembered that other than Man Huzi who uses Heavenbearing Art, everyone else hasn’t been seen using that kind of move. I think it shows the sign of the strength and stability of his spiritual sense.. don’t take my word for it though…
And yeah!!! His nascent soul giant projection is screaming out of satisfaction I bet! And literally stares at everyone! Han Li’s giant projection is having that golden circle, making him deity-like and the opening song continues with staccato! Everyone literally trembles and Mu Peiling can only stares upward with complicated expression. As his nascent soul projection dispersed, the opening song has turned into chorus and everyone is flocking around the medicinal field now.. Suddenly four Core Formation experts of Drifting Cloud Sect announced that 10 miles of this area is a forbidden region. By the way, that red clothed guy is called Martial Uncle Duan in the novel. In the scene of questioning Mu Peiling, it was shown that Song Yu is the one who inquire to her. In the novel, it’s actually that Elder Feng. “Aren’t you the one responsible for this medicinal field?” She said “yes, but currently that responsibility goes to a Qi-condensation disciple… called… Han Li.” “Han Li?” Song Yu mumbles, “back then the one who performed as top 10 in the sword competition is also him.. Don’t tell me, this Nascent Soul’s Heavenly Sign, come from him?” “Nascent Soul… Heavenly Sign…!” Mu Peiling shocked betrayed her face.
“You guys did very well, now let us handle this.” Cheng Tiankun arrived with Lu Luo. And the four Core Formation elders of Drifting Cloud Sect replied simultaneously, “we obeyed the order!” and dispersed. Here, the two Nascent Soul experts being quite amiable. Plus.. they act funny and awkward, I never saw that kind of Nascent Soul expert in prev eps of RMJI. Well, I guess it’s normal, they’re being cautious because.. even after being so close, they’re unable to find where his cave abode location is! Han Li’s being able to keep out these prying eyes via formation even before breaking through is the proof of his capability!
Cheng Tiankun is being funny af here. He’s doing a mic test fr! haha.. After asking whether they can visit, they discussed privately that they will be a laughing stock has this ever been revealed. Suddenly, Han Li replies, “this Han is sorry for unable to inform you that I’m borrowing your spiritual vein to form nascent soul. Forgive my impoliteness.” And proceeds let them in. Are you guys shocked? I mean, I am. The cave abode is actually underwater! How did he even dig such a large area for himself? In the novel, Han Li actually ordered Silvermoon to open the restriction for both of them and stay hidden. I guess this part is skipped. But we are being treated with a feast to the eyes with Han Li baby version! Yep his nascent soul design is so elegant! Finally, Han Li can be called a patriarch in mortal world!
The scene finally skips to where Han Li served his guests with tea using his Foundation Establishment puppets. Afterwards, Cheng Tiankun proceeds by asking how long Han Li has cultivated. Our boi answered, “this humble self has worked hard and luckily able to gain epiphany in the path of immortality in these 200 years.” I mean, idk what the translation supposed to be, but.. the Chinese is 奴顿 which are formed from “奴隶” means slave and “顿悟” means epiphany. In the novel, Cheng Tiankun actually asked him about: 1) origin, 2) his youthful appearance, whether he used some kind of halting appearance technique, 3) how long he has been cultivating, via one short sentence. The answer in the novel, Ch, 640, is quite different from this one, so I don’t have a proper reference. The reaction to 200 years of cultivation being able to reach Nascent Soul was indeed epic. Now both elders turned out to be quite a comedian, trying to keep him in the sect as much as possible. Han Li, having much superior spiritual sense, must’ve caught whatever they’re discussing, but didn’t expose them.
What’s interesting is that, their expression turns normal almost immediately and asking whether he has plans to go somewhere after forming his nascent soul. Han Li said that he stops here to form his nascent soul was just a sudden decision, since he liked the environment. Well.. this sentence was given a positive reaction by both elders, who proceeded to promote their sect with sincerity, even promising their own Nascent Soul cultivation method for reference. Comparing with Ch. 640, Han Li actually answered by discussing his situation through a bit of mumbling, after telling them that he comes from State of Yue. It is impossible for him to go back there since he offended those Ghost Spirit Sect cultivators. There’s one thing that both donghua and novel emphasized correctly, that elders of Drifting Cloud Sect promised not to treat him as an outsider. Afterwards, Han Li proceeds to tell them that he will give a proper answer in three days. It might be unimportant, but 3 days was suggested by Cheng Tiankun in the novel. And that’s the end of Ep 156! Han Li stands proud, the narrator gave Han Li, Early Stage Nascent Soul as his new introduction sentence…
And yeah! Next ep. preview is mostly a throwback on how Han Li faced the so-called inner demon! He will be brought into dreams after dreams! I believe they will mention Heavenvoid Cauldron and that small mysterious bottle next ep! Moreover, Mu Peiling will use scheme to make herself a concubine of him! Idk if there will be any changes, but it’s going to be exciting for sure!

Are his “false roots” finally going to become a boon rather than a hindrance? Or are they the reason why he has been able to master many techniques and disciplines, so they were already useful, other than making cultivation more expensive and difficult? Or they just bad to have, period?
Maybe it’s not important, but I always wanted this show to go into greater detail on the merits and demerits of each type of root, and what they actually mean, outside of being easier or harder to cultivate with.
Okay, I know Han Li was always being tongue cheek about his qualifications and talents. He is a humble man that wants to be low-key and undersells himself. But it is nice to have Nascent Soul cultivators tell audience “Han Li is actually incredible for becoming a Nascent Soul in 200 years”, especially when we know the various tribulations he has had to face.

I’ve always like books when you get perspectives of side characters, who are either enemies or background observers, and the way they describe the mc in horror or awe. It’s a nice shift of perspective when contrasted to mc’s perspective, which is usually more mundane and matter of fact, as they are use to their own abnormality. It’s a great trope.

At long last, Han Li has finally arrive at this point. Unlike the other Power Fantasies using Cultivation, a Breakthrough’s weight is far greater in Fanren.
Right from the start Han Li said this
渡厄修身, 红尘练心 Endure hardship, cultivates one’s body, in Secular refine one’s heart.
In Daoism which Fanren based Cultivation off, the word “厄” means 3 Calamities and 9 Adversities/Disasters. Cultivate one’s body by absorbing Nature Qi and refine them into Pure Qi. Secular refine heart naturally means through the secular, contemplate and refine one’s heart because to Cultivate Immortality, one needs to right their heart.
Thus, the most crucial part of Nascent Soul breakthrough is Inner Demons from one’s heart and that’s why this was added to the start.
欢喜无明 -> I’m not translating this into English. It just means don’t treat good things and victories earned during Cultivation Life as the end. There is no end. Resolve one’s heart and keep going is the only truth.

Han Li wearing white robes is an easter egg.This is the first robes he wore on the 1st Episode in his fight against a Sea Monster and also the robes Han Li wore when he looked very different in the 1st Fanren Trailer (in 2017-2018) where different looking Han Li and a very different (but much more pretty) Nangong Wan teaming up against the Serpentine monster in Blood Colored Forbidden Grounds just before they ended having sex due to getting hit by the aphrodisiac. The Animation Team is telling us, keeping to the theme of never forgetting their purest heart. They did say in the special that they went extra miles for the donghua for love, not money.

4 Different Colored Barriers each representing Han Li’s 四属性伪灵根 4-Elements False Spirit Roots that’s the official name. I noticed someone made a mistake when explaining to you guys calling it 毁 (Ruined) Spirit Roots that is not right. It has always been False Spirit Roots for 4 & 5 Elements. You can go watch earlier episodes. They don’t call it 毁灵根(huǐ) they call it 伪灵根(wěi)
Han Li’s expression is calm but Silvermoon’s face shows tears on the edges of her eyes, her heart goes out to him. She knows the solitude Han Li faced. She watched him for many years after he came out of Void Heavens Palace, she saw his solitude, his reluctance to separate from Ziling and Mei Ning.
Even more than that, rejecting Mo Caihuan, couldn’t help Chen Qiaoqian escape marriage of convenience, he couldn’t help his friend, Xin Ruyin (girl who taught and gave him Magic Formations) take revenge when Fu Family did way more than bullying which led to losses of lives etc… . Added by Donghua, watching Wen Qiang (Wen Siyue’s dad) die with frustrations and regrets Han Li clearly saw him as a friend etc…
On Silvermoon’s part, her soul is incomplete. She don’t have any memories, don’t know who she is, had to stay in Void Heavens Palace for countless years until she encountered Han Li, a normal Cultivator. “MAN! I THOUGHT NORMAL CULTIVATORS HAVE ALL GONE EXTINCT!” Silvermoon probably. She even said she choose Han Li because he seemed like a more normal Cultivator. The rest were kinda messed up in the head one way or another. I’m not talking about just the group that Han Li came with. She’s in Void Heavens Palace for countless years, they are not the only ones who got to where Silvermoon was. Yet she choose Han Li.
Interestingly, previous episode when Silvermoon was doing to Transfer spirit into Han Li’s Sword to be his Sword Spirit, she had to faced it alone and Han Li couldn’t do anything but sigh and wait. Now its Silvermoon’s turn, Han Li had to face his Inner Demon and breakthrough to Nascent Soul on his own. Silvermoon can’t help him. If we look both of them in this aspect, Han Li and Silvermoon do have quite a lot in common.
But to have freedom to do what he wants in such a toxic world where it is 100% rule by Laws of the Jungle and Might makes everything right. Even let oppressor lie in your face and you have to agree with a smiley face or die or worse… (Just ask the female cultivators kidnapped and raped by Demonic Cultivators and the Demonic dudes started raising their fists or worse, reaching for a sledge hammer)
Seriously, for too long, Old Demon Han has been forced to pretend not to care and act like a bystander. After all, he has been alone for 90% of the time. Even Condensing Core into Nascent Soul, this should be a major event, he only has Silvermoon to stand guard for him.
They are really determined to stay consistent. Drifting Clouds is on a lockdown, normally, Cultivator Sects wouldn’t care about Mortals. But not Drifting Clouds, they stationed a Cultivator at the place where Mu Peiling and Sun Huo normally distribute medicines and help cure diseases or injuries, when the Massive Formation activates, the Cultivator even generated Forcefield to protect mortals from the power generated by the tiny fraction of the Formation. Drifting Cloud Sect is the most orthodox and behaved the most like Cultivators from myths.
Moving to Mu Peiling. Simp is related to the Elder Feng who told Song Yu he will try to breakthrough to Nascent Soul before the Holy Tree Battle, as a result, Simps thinks he is big shot and use the Creep Stone he bought with the money Papa and Mama gave him on himself and thinks he is so cool! Simp is Evolving! Simp is evolving into Creep! Mu Peiling outright smacks the dude and make it clear to everyone. She don’t want to be married to the Simp that’s evolving into a Creep. Then everyone knows if she ends up marrying the Creep, it would be against her will. That’s pretty much her final resistance. Even Drifting Clouds has cracks in it. Countless Mu Peilings are all over Cultivator’s worlds and a lot of their fates are 100% going to be worse.
Silvermoon stated that last episode, she is becoming more and more friendly with Mu Peiling. Based on that and what Mu Peiling said “It was probably my own wishful thinking” I think there’s 2 facets. 1st, Mu Peiling did suspect if Han Li was secretly hiding his true strength and considered gambling her future with him. 2nd, Mu Peiling do like Han Li as a person, not just as a potential bf/husband.
This shows how desperate her situation is. Mu Peiling stated that her heart is in Cultivation and her behavior do support this. Now she’s forced consider marriage by her circumstance.
Han Li’s Nascent Soul heavenly phenomenon shows 4 Elements, Wood, Fire, Earth and Water. The Drifting Clouds Core Stages were shocked because they know that Elder Feng can’t cause the phenomenon so soon. Song Yu clenched her fist fearing something bad may happen to the Sect.
Hilariously that one, Senior Lin who was first to experienced Han Li’s Talismans Bombing in the Sword Tournament tried to use his power to protect everyone on the square with magic shield which shattered when Han Li’s power got a bit closer and everyone had to use their full power to shield themselves.
Han Li’s Nascent Soul process.
We can see Han Li has 4 different Elements Spirit Powers, but Wood Element is his primary one.
First, each of the 4 Elements condense into 4 different colored Cores, then combines into a Golden Core and finally, the Golden Core shatters, Nascent Soul Heavenly Phenomenon dissipates and Han Li’s Nascent Soul is formed.
The remnants of Han Li’s Spirit Powers splits the dark foggy sky. With the Gryfalcon that Han Li saved multiple times in Drifting Clouds, flying into the sky. A thing to note: When Han Li succeeded in Core Formation, he caused an ordinary dying bonsai in a mortal’s house to come back to life. Core Stage has ability to resurrect life small lifeforms and things that are inherently very resilent. A Gryfalcon bathed in Nascent Soul’s spirit Qi will turn into a Spirit Gryfalcon.
The Gryfalcon also means freedom and breaking toxic shackles that are hidden in secular, fish jumping out of the water is reflection of fish leaping through Dragon’s Gate. All these reflects Han Li is finally free of the toxic shackles such as JiyinG and other things I won’t spoil.
(Those disgusting things stained with mud, shit and all sort of gross things, hides in shadows, couldn’t do anything except restrict freedom, creativity and ruined happiness by attempting to hijack the freedom and creavity of others. Because these shackles can’t create anything productive or beneficial. They only know how to burden any and everything and in the end ruined everything. They are the real Ruined Spirit Roots.)
Then they finally show the Drifting Clouds’ 2 Nascent Souls.

Elder Chen, the older looking guy is the Nascent Soul of Drifting Clouds who got injured and just recovered.
Next they show Chen and Lü’s personality, making them jokers. This is also to show how bad the situation is for Drifting Clouds.
Chen was badly injured, he’s getting on the years, meaning its only a matter of time before Drifting Clouds loses 1 nascent soul. This is why he asked Han Li’s age which shocked them and the two old geezers becomes jokers.
It’s understandable though. If Han Li nascent soul at old age. He just has the talent. A good to have, at least if we can recruit him, he can help maintain our current status quo which frankly speaking isn’t great.
But problem is Han Li is extremely young. With 4 Elements False Spirit Roots, this means he has good luck (Green bottle), vast resources (Green Bottle), significantly higher talents than they expected and a lot of time. This elevates Han Li’s value greatly.
It is Chen’s dream to bring Drifting Clouds to glory. But he couldn’t, now he sees that hope in Han Li. That’s why they went clown mode.

About Spiritual Roots
In Mortal Realms there are generally 3 Main Types of Spirit Roots.
Heavenly Roots: 1 Element
True Roots: 2 ~ 3 Elements
False Roots: 4 ~ 5 Elements
The reason for False Spirit Roots to be looked down upon is because they need way more resources to reach the same level in Mortal Realms only because its Spiritual Qi is very diluted due to an event in very very very very distant past.
Having 4 or 5 Elements also means different Elements will clash and cause the gains to reduce further. So needing to refine 4-5 times more Qi than others + higher Qi loss due to Element conflict.
At higher levels this is no longer an issue because Elements contradicts, they can also enhance each other.
Metal empowers Water empowers Wood empowers Fire empowers Earth empowers Metal. (Minerals forms in Earth)
For those who thinks Metal boost Water is weird. Lightning is part of Metal Element. So add electricity into a pool of water and take a dip in the electrified pool. Tell me if the Water is not more hazardous than not having ‘Metal’
Heavenly and True Roots elements are naturally bigger thus more powerful than False Roots whose Spirit Roots elements are divided into more parts.
Merits of False Roots, Demerits of Heavenly Roots
At higher level, namely breakthrough to Body Integration, they need all 5 Elements. (Body Integration is misleading, it isn’t physical body, its everything combines as 1 Inner Universe)
More rare Spirit Roots
Chaos Spirit Roots: Train 1 Element, all elements increase equally. These guys = 5 different Heavenly Roots of same level. No need all 5 Elements to advance to Body Integration. Chaos Roots people are more lucky, almost always find useful rare treasures. They are hit way harder by Heavenly Tribulations at the Great Vehicle ~ Mahayama.
Super Spirit Roots: Divided into Sun and Moon. Sun = Yang = Good and Moon = Yin = Evil. Both are born to know how to cultivate and will start cultivating from birth. They are incredibly powerful, cultivates faster than Heavenly Roots.
Fusion Roots: Can absorb and/or perfectly combine any Elements and two objects/materials more easily. They are constantly absorbing energies, so if 1 of these guys are near someone breaking through, they might end up absorbing the person’s powers and cause breakthrough failures.
They are amazing crafters and naturally good warriors if they get to grow and learn. They don’t because Fusion Roots bodies are incredibly potent tonic for Cultivators and mortals. Consuming their blood and flesh or consuming elixir made from their blood, flesh and bones will increase the person’s Cultivation Talents, raise their current levels and make them naturally stronger warriors and crafters.
As a result, Fusion Roots Cultivators never survives.
As a refresher I’ll give a summary of Cultivation Levels
Qi Refiners: Total 13 Levels. By absorbing Qi in the world, running through Spirit Roots to become Spirit Qi to forge body, meridians and accumulating Qi in Dantian/lower diaphragm. Each Level is accumulation of Spirit Qi and Mastery. Can learn Spirit Qi Magic and gain 6th sense. Once Spirit Qi condensed into liquid form and fills up Dantian, becomes Foundation Stage.
Foundation Stage: Divided into Early, Middle, Late and Peak. Cultivator goes through a fundamental change in mind and body. Can use Foundation Magic and Abilities, no need to eat, 6th Sense is enhanced, some such as Han Li was so powerful, theirs were more like 6.5th Sense, can use tools, typically swords to fly for extended periods of time. Lifespan over 200 years. Once Liquid Qi in Dantian condenses permanently into Golden Core, they reach Core Stage.
Core Stage: Also divided into Early, Middle, Late and Peak Sub-Levels. No need rely on tools to fly. Can create Natal Magic Devices such as Han Li’s Green Bamboo Bee Cloud Sword (Direct Translation), 6th Sense is so strong, they are literal 7th Sense here. Some anomalies like Han Li’s 7th Sense is basically 7.5 or higher. Core Stages are naturally way stronger than Foundation. Lifespan 500+ years. 600 is not impossible.
Nascent Soul: At this level, Cultivator has become a completely different (higher) Lifeform than their original species. Nascent Soul becomes the Core of the person’s Cultivation. A Nascent Soul is far harder to kill and has way stronger fighting strength. As long as Nascent Soul is not destroyed, the Cultivator can hijack other people’s bodies to revive even if their main body, mind and soul is destroyed. As the Nascent Soul is a vastly superior reborn version of old self, its Mind and Soul is also way stronger than the Main Body, Mind and Soul. Using Nascent Soul to fight is a double edged sword. You are at your strongest but if you fall, you might die permanently.
Spirit Transformation/Spirit Changers: Transform Divine (Direct translation) Mortal Realm’s absolute highest Cultivation Level. Upon reaching this Realm, Cultivator is unfathomably powerful. Can connect with Primordial Qi of Heavens and Earth, combines with 5 Elements and body is indestructible, but needs to survive Tribulations. Nascent Soul starts turning into Primordial Spirit. The moment this process starts, Nascent Soul becomes several times stronger. Easily live for 2000+ years. In the Spirit Realm and similar Level Universes, Spirit changers can combine 5 Elements to reach next Level.
I think this is enough. Han Li just reached Nascent Soul, no sense talking about higher levels.
