Guys please i have a question and i need genuine answers. Since PW and STH are in the same universe, then how come they can only live upto 10k years max, even as the highest cultivator (Emperor) and while in PW they can live for a millenia and even till eternity. i’m confused. Why is their lifespan so short in STH and not so in PW

It’s because the universe in Shrouding the Heavens (STH) is a damaged, post-apocalyptic version of the one in Perfect World (PW).
• In Perfect World: The laws of the universe were perfect, and the world was filled with Immortal Matter. This substance naturally fed the cultivators’ bodies, granting them millions of years of life or eternal youth.
• In Shrouding the Heavens: This takes place millions of years later. After the massive cosmic wars at the end of PW, the Immortal Domain was shattered and cut off. As a result, Immortal Matter completely dried up in the mortal universe.
Without that substance, the environment became extremely harsh. Even a Great Emperor—no matter how powerful—will naturally age and wither after 10,000 years because the world itself can no longer sustain immortality. To live longer, they have to forcefully trigger rebirths on their own to become a Red Dust Immortal.

Cultivation is weaker methinks
Shrouding the Heavens takes place in the Nine Heavens and Ten Earths. Many great eras lie far into the future, possibly billions of years. During the Perfect World period, the Nine Heavens and Ten Earths undergo tremendous changes. It won’t be very long until Perfect World donghua returns and you will see the events that eventually lead to the situation in Shrouding the Heavens.
As the laws of the world shift, it becomes nearly impossible to break through to the level of a Supreme Being or a Great Emperor during the Shrouding the Heavens era. Nearly all the old Supreme Beings are killed by an invisible blade that descends into the Nine Heavens and Ten Earths. Making at most one Supreme Being is allowed to exist at any given time.
During these cosmic transformations, the Nine Heavens and Ten Earths merge together again and become a complete universe but a nearly mortal one. The world permanently enters a cultivation‑less era. A massive barrier forms around the universe during this time, making it almost impossible to break through. Because of this, most beings cannot enter or leave the universe without special means.
During the final wars of Perfect World, the Immortal Domain is destroyed and shattered into pieces. Those pieces become their own independent worlds, and the connections between them are severed. The connection between the Nine Heavens and Ten Earths and the Immortal Domain is also cut off. This is why, in Shrouding the Heavens, the Immortal Domain is considered a myth for most of the novel.
