i might say this episode is a little bit off, Ye Fan and Li Xiaoman would be fighting here a deathmatvh and Xiaoman is possesed by the Ancient Crocodile seed/fetus he planted on Xiaoman’s body, that Ancient Crocodile they encounter in the early episode while traveling. . . Xiaoman in defeat chose to be a fobidden land wild slave. . .

If you think about it, the writing is really based off of human characteristics. 2 people want to learn a skill or start a business, one will do research/study first and go through a structured learning path before entering the job market, the other will learn on the job and figure it out as they go. Doesn’t automatically make the 2nd person a stupid person, they just have a higher risk appetite. It’s only stupid if your strategy isn’t adaptable. In this case, MC is not exactly a weakling who always needs saving.
They explained in the episode that the skull was the one transmitting the life waves like an SOS. He comes from that planet King of Astrology and built those formations, so obviously the dragons responded.
MC recognized the script and recognized that it was referencing Emperor Wu Shi. As he took the jade pendant, Skully transformed into that obsession and led him to the formation since he was able to pass the test and obtain the crystal.
Skully was just an obsession without consciousness which is why he was unable to trigger the formation. This is why he cannot respond to any of Ye Fan’s questions but when Ye Fan mentioned he is also looking for a way home, the obsession was triggered once more.
With Skully leaving the planet, the life wave energy would be gone, and the entire planet would become poisonous. So why not hitch a ride? The dragons are not really something he can control.
