Just like how he wanted to see his parents one last time back in the lower realm when he was about to die from the Bronze Curse. This time, he looked back one last time at the massive fortress before walking to his “ruination”, surrendering himself to the enemies.

shi hao presents the rotten wooden coffin to the elders in the border
foreign realm threatens intensifying war and sending undying being, if they don’t surrender huang and the coffin; which they (foreign realm) can do provided some sacrifices.
grandma jin/jin taijun (the ancestor or supreme being of jin clan), the one who has one of his descendants betrothed to wang xi, sorta “deceived” huang to sacrificed himself to buy 500 years of peace and waiting for the reinforcement from immortal realm/domain. this evil faction in the border is getting loud supporters, especially since grand elder is in death seclusion.
huang/shi hao was finally sealed and given to the foreign realm but the coffin is kept. shi hao left some of his treasures to his friends. huang was kept in prison with severe conditions but somehow he managed to survive and got even stronger.
huang got experimented by gu family (one of the traitor of 9H10E – later gu ancestor revealed that his betrayal was under the order of reincarnation immortal king, but that’s for later).. and he got crippled for real.
his life was kept bcs some undying kings wanted the secret on his body. they even gave him the rare drop of blood from blood phoenix immortal (another faction who “betrayed” 9H10E) and then they put him inside the special cauldron of gu family to proceed with his rebirth while taking advantage of his dao and precious technique leaking out to strengthen the geniuses of gu and other families.
huang got “freedom” based on the decrees of the undying and he was allowed to stroll around. he went to the place called dao comprehension tree mountain. and he actually meet those two golden burial knights (sanzang and shenming) from burial realm at the sea shore of a place called ocean fall. it is said u can comprehend dao by fishing.
at some point grand elder woke up and beat up jin taijun severely. he even took the banner and call out foreign realm to fight to the death! ofc grand elder is killing foreign realm people with an even greater ferocity.
huang actually managed to fish out a kun fish from the ocean fall and together with two golden burial knights, they escaped from foreign realm, by being dragged by the kun fish. it was an unplanned escape. everyone was flabbergasted and some people began to spread rumors that huang defected, but grand elder suppressed that rumor and kill those who dares to spread such ill-intentioned rumors.
during his escape he was almost caught by undying, but the kun fish managed to break free. and in the middle of the journey, he encountered lightning spirits moving a corpse through starry sky. that corpse is later revealed to be lightning emperor! they followed lightning spirits travelling and arrived at an altar and summoned a gate, which turns out to be the gate of immortal domain!
well they managed to open the gate. in short immortal domain is unwelcome to visitors but when they see the lightning spirits and the corpse, they decided to let them in. as for shi hao and 2 golden burial knights, they are kinda unwelcome. in short, after a short challenge, they managed to get a short tour into immortal domain special place called immortal pit and got some treasures of “unknown value” such as immortal gold steles and three lives medicine. afterwards they were kicked out from immortal domain and their remnant auras/traces were erased by some kind of “antiseptic” lol~ before closing the gate, shi hao got confirmation of the news saying that so-called reinforcement is very likely a hoax from jin taijun and immortal domain is truly reluctant to fight against foreign realm.
after leaving immortal realm/domain, they stumbled upon a place called lightning abyss, it’s like the source of all lightning tribulation. and after they managed to pass through a safe route, with the help of willow deity’s branch, they arrive at a place called dam realm. it is a border to the place called “realm sea”. there, using lightning tribulation and that immortal killing guillotine refined into his left pointing finger, shi hao managed to get rid of undying marks inside his body. at that place there were two options: 1. go to the realm sea, impossible for shi hao atm since his cultivation is not even at true immortal realm. actually it’s only recommended to go when ur at immortal king realm. 2. go back to the border city/emperor city.. basically it’s the old city where shi hao’s clansmen are fighting, those who are called sinful, they are still defending the borders till their very end.
You’re back! Just at the right time! This arc (or these chapters) here will always be the highlight for me. I don’t quite understand why a lot of novel fans prefer the lower realm arc. What’s your favourite arc?
IMO, the quintessence of the story begins here. This is where the whole conspiracy about the sin blood clan and the traitors are slowly revealed. And this is where it starts tugging on my heartstring:

Shi Hao’s exile, and later his witnessing of the collapse of the Ancient Imperial Pass. As if the knife didn’t stab deep enough, the author let the entire Sin Province be dragged into the enemy’s land, followed by Great Elder’s heroic demise.
Just as things get too suffocating, the author gave us a wholesome break in the Lower Realm again, peppering it with a bit of mystery from the Restricted Region and of course SH’s occasional trips back to 9H10E.
All these contents from second-half of the middle part are wonderfully written with good humour and grave tragedy. It’s just a pity that the story slowly goes downhill from there until the finale. 😢
hmm imo, lower realm arc is pretty unique at least donghua version.. maybe cuz they’re rushing to meet deadline lots of stuff are being ignored so they’re not as fascinating as lower realm arc in story progression and explaining~ like the fact some people need keyboard warriors to help them understand this already tells a lot.. for me, towards the end is even better, especially the part where shi hao made a new kind of breakthrough in his self-created cultivation system and when he reveals the mystery of strangeness and darkness, etc. or maybe cross time adventure.. if u must ask the parts where i liked, are probably when:
shi hao returns to lower realm to forcefully achieve supreme being realm while resisting the immortal killing curse.
shi hao re-achieve supreme being realm and perfected his own mortal dao and his own created cultivation system.
shi hao went to the emperor fall age (age of emperor collapse) and lived there for 490k years to finally live 8th life. such a shame that he didn’t achieve dao there and even try to become immortal king. is it because he can’t do it or he’s bound by timestamp of river of time if he achieve immortal dao in that era?
shi hao deceived the despicable immortal kings and hide his primordial spirit inside ten reincarnation imprints, later after he revived, he beat up supreme giants of immortal king
shi hao fought against foreign realm alone and achieve the status of half-immortal emperor
shi hao fought tragically against four half-immortal emperors
shi hao returned from various points of timeline in the river of time after being “killed” by the corpse immortal emperor

huo ling’er’s return via the dam world. understanding that she has become the bait and gave birth to a new primordial spirit.
but wdym by going downhill? u mean not enough drama or the story goes way too fast? i mean chen dong got this bad habit of ending things somewhat looking in hurry or fast forward so..
he fought the 3 (+1) half-immortal emperors are such a drag. It goes to the point where I ask, when is this fight going to end? It already took the lives of Willow Deity, Lil Pagoda and the the three Shi sons and he’s still not winning. Plus the arrival of future half-immortal emperors to add to the drama was just a bit much for me.
I get it that the author wants an interconnection between the two novels but it seems a bit too deliberate and came out of nowhere.
Also, I didn’t read Book 2 at that time (I still didn’t finish it yet), but I knew that the highest realm cultivators in StH could go is scarlet immortal (I think in Chinese, they call it hong chen xian, basically means ‘mortal world’ immortal) and the power level should be just slightly below immortal king.

So, how in the world those ppl (including Ye Fan) can become half-immortal emperors so easily and why would they still need to come and get Huang to help them? I mean, there’re like 6 half-immortal emperors from that future era compared to one in Shi Hao’s era. The other 4 half-immortal emperors that SH fought with, were all from the past eras. So, all these seem so redundant just to drag out the fight. All the emotional build-ups from Lil’ Stone, Shi Yi and Qin Hao dying plus the earlier sad departure of Willow Deity and the temporary parting of SH with the newly reunited Huo Ling’er and Great Elder have all evaporated. If only the author would strike while the iron is hot. The tension and the grief were so great when SH lost his son and yet their sacrifice seems so insignificant compared to the gains SH received.
It didn’t seem to help much and the fight still dragged on, diluting the impact of his loss.
shi hao re-achieve supreme being realm and perfected his own mortal dao and his own created cultivation system.
Yeah.. I have no complaints on his cultivation process or his unwavering spirit in cultivation. But in this arc, the author totally neglected his emotional life.

Here, SH appears a bit like a scumbag to Yunxi. He left without consummating his marriage on his wedding night and he went to to all kinds of places to cultivate with his Shi armies but forgot he had a wife at home. Does she no longer need to cultivate? Does it take hundreds of years to just bloody make love to his wife? I actually don’t like reading too much of romance or unnecessary saving-the-damsels-in-distress plots in cultivation novels. But this obvious neglect actually looks more like a plot hole than a deliberate plot progression by the author. It’s like he’s so driven to write about SH cultivating his 800 Shi Clan armies and of course his own cultivation until he realises… ooops I think I forgot about mentioning his wife.

sterious transformation of all ages ability. My only peeve: it’s too short. Here, the author could have explained a bit more (I don’t mind reading more examples on how SH looks back on the river of time and find different versions of himself).
Generally, I love how the author tightens his plots towards the end and tries to close every open plot point. But Chen Dong unfortunately has the tendency to abuse his Dao of Wordcount. I don’t mind reading long extended fights as long as every skill/move has a proper cause and effect. One obvious example I can think of is the scene where SH was refined in a cauldron by the Gu Clan when he was taken captive. That whole mini-arc where he then had to use some phoenix blood to help himself recover is so redundant because in the end, it didn’t work and everything went back to square one. So, what’s the point of the author adding that in? Just to intensify SH’s suffering or just to introduce the fallen phoenix clan?
Surely, there’re better ways to do them. So.. yeah.. all in all, I didn’t enjoy the last quarter of the novel as much as its earlier chapters.
i guess the whole point is to make mc suffer and cultivates diligently and yepp he forgot he got a wife at home.. i mean why is he not trying to let his wife cultivate like his shi armies and other people to the dam realm? dang.. his wife and his parents are not weaklings, they’re just not progressing as fast as him and their realm is not as solid as him, that’s all.. and i agree with you. the whole point is to make mc’s life full of tragedies.. and full of dragging..
Hah… never expected to be summoned here. 😊 Just wanted to remind everyone, he’s going as a prisoner of war. A captive. There will be some unpleasant torture scenes but of course, our boi will never bend. From then onwards, there will only be more and more heart-breaking arcs. Of course, on the bright side, we can always look forward to his foodie penchant: eating his non-humanoid enemies. The novel on the whole, is a tragedy but Shi Hao’s shameless behaviour and his obsession with food is definitely the silver lining that balances the heaviness of the story.
the act of eating his non-humanoid enemies is so legendary that even his enemies during sacred ruins story is so afraid of this epic memory.. the memory of huang himself is severed, the world can’t remember him, his friends can’t remember him, for the sake of protecting his friends.. and even the new mc is hated bcs he kinda look like huang lol~ again, author’s gimmick of using that burial stuff like bronze coffin and the stone pot to influence the aura of each mc and their physical traits make them look like each other!

hmm imo, lower realm arc is pretty unique at least donghua version.. maybe cuz they’re rushing to meet deadline lots of stuff are being ignored so they’re not as fascinating as lower realm arc in story progression and explaining~ like the fact some people need keyboard warriors to help them understand this already tells a lot.. for me, towards the end is even better, especially the part where shi hao made a new kind of breakthrough in his self-created cultivation system and when he reveals the mystery of strangeness and darkness, etc. or maybe cross time adventure.. if u must ask the parts where i liked, are probably when:

Generally, I love how the author tightens his plots towards the end and tries to close every open plot point. But Chen Dong unfortunately has the tendency to abuse his Dao of Wordcount. I don’t mind reading long extended fights as long as every skill/move has a proper cause and effect. One obvious example I can think of is the scene where SH was refined in a cauldron by the Gu Clan when he was taken captive. That whole mini-arc where he then had to use some phoenix blood to help himself recover is so redundant because in the end, it didn’t work and everything went back to square one. So, what’s the point of the author adding that in? Just to intensify SH’s suffering or just to introduce the fallen phoenix clan?
i guess the whole point is to make mc suffer and cultivates diligently and yepp he forgot he got a wife at home.. i mean why is he not trying to let his wife cultivate like his shi armies and other people to the dam realm? dang.. his wife and his parents are not weaklings, they’re just not progressing as fast as him and their realm is not as solid as him, that’s all.. and i agree with you. the whole point is to make mc’s life full of tragedies.. and full of dragging..
