When looking at SL3 (Legend of the Dragon King) and Soul Land 4 (Ultimate Douluo), the “Golden Dragon” lore in Soul Land 2 makes absolutely zero logical sense. The author fundamentally broke his own timeline and rules to force connections that didn’t naturally exist, making the SL2 dragon lore feel completely disconnected from the rest of the series.
1. The Soul Land 3 Inconsistency: Where did the “Golden Dragon” actually come from?
In Soul Land 2, Wang Qiu’er is introduced as a Three-Eyed Golden Lion that somehow possesses the bloodline of the Golden Dragon King. When she sacrifices herself, this “Golden Dragon” power merges with Tang Wutong to create the Light Dragon Divine Butterfly.
However, Soul Land 3 completely rewrites the rules of the Golden Dragon King:
By the logic of SL3, the Golden Dragon King’s power was a single, indivisible, apocalyptic nuke locked in a heavenly vault. The fact that a mortal soul beast in SL2 casually simulated the “Golden Dragon” martial soul completely shatters the high stakes established in the very next book.
2. The Fragmented Soul Fever Dream
The way Tang Wutong is constructed in SL2 is notoriously convoluted because the author was actively changing his mind mid-serial.
When you read SL3, this looks completely unhinged. Tang San—the righteous Sea God—essentially used a rare mortal Emperor Beast as a biological incubator to farm a “Dragon God” mutation for his daughter. It makes Tang San look manipulative and entirely breaks the established lore of how divine souls and dragon cores function in the later books.
3. The Ultimate Retcon: Soul Land 4 Exposes the Lie
If Tang Wutong truly had a “mutation of the Dragon God” through the Light Dragon Divine Butterfly, then she would be an apex entity in the dragon hierarchy.
Yet, in Soul Land 4, Tang San’s grandson (Tang Xuanyu) is born. The entire plot of SL4 is that Tang Xuanyu is a miracle child because his parents (Tang Wulin with the Golden Dragon King core and Gu Yuena the Silver Dragon King) fused their bloodlines to reincarnate the true dragon god.
If the Dragon God’s halves were strictly bound to Wulin and Gu Yuena, Tang Wutong’s “Light Dragon Divine Butterfly” becomes an awkward, ignored evolutionary footnote. The author completely ignores Wutong’s supposed “Dragon God” connection in the later books because he realized he painted himself into a corner with the SL2 lore.
