Ya he was a likable character, but even so, I’m plenty happy he was off’d the moment he suddenly resmbled Xaiotian far too much(minus his lust). If he hadn’t poured on the smoozing so much. He may have been around longer.
And I don’t think he would have betrayed Xu Qing. Looking back, many of the scenes we saw him in. He was refrencing books on lore and prophecies(according to dialogue) that outlined a hero who would correct the era and make a better future for all. I don’t recall word for word, but you know what I’m saying right. Anyway
It was obvious the Varja Sect Ancestor believed Xu Qing is the one mentioned in the Prophecy. And he wanted a front row seat to witness everything Xu Qing would do in the future.
I think it’s fair to feel bad for the Vajra ancestor. He knew what was going on, and his original plan would’ve worked if his underlings hadn’t laughed it off as paranoia. But then he was locked in, because he made the mistake of trying to salvage that plan instead of casting his underlings aside and begging for forgiveness immediately.
He wanted to disengage from the situation so bad that he moved the whole damn sect. He pretty much abandoned revenge, even. I wouldn’t be surprised if becoming an artifact spirit was his backup plan all along; he probably killed himself to make sure he could do so.
