i mean.. chen dong’s story is quite difficult to summarize.. they’re chasing deadline.. maybe that’s why some elements were discarded and we lose continuity.. but other than that.. i feel the story is still awesome
I think so too. I love how Chen Dong weave such a large plot that connects throughout the trilogy. His only shortcoming IMO is his tendency to drift away into non-stop actions and incessant mocking of SH by the peanut gallery. Wherever he goes, there’s always a group of people who wants to fight him and mock him. But in the whole, he does tie up loose ends (maybe not everything but I’d say a great deal over 90% of them) and lore is pretty consistent and coherent. Some writers like… ahem cough cough.. TJSS, you’ll find at least 10 inconsistencies in 10 chapters back to back.

it’s still a bit confusing, but i felt they’re doing a pretty good job already. after all, the story is very comprehensive and it got a lot of details and intricacies going on. but i agree with you last ep gave me goosebumps for my long dead heart.

In this ep, that he ziming left because he feared huang, they then revealed their plan to revive an stronger being that died on that battlefield but only remnant show up, that remnant then unsealed some realm that was sealed since ancient war all for the foreing being to explore, but both camp enter, inside they find a phoenix and whatever in the next ep, don’t you see the scheme and mystery of those foreing being, They don’t just watch like you said, The grand elder is anticipating their scheme before making a move, He sent people on the other border, and think of a strategy, the enemy has like 3 late supreme being stronghold. Come on man

It hasn’t been the best donghua since MC resurrected, and it certainly isn’t the best currently, not when it’s become more of an art exhibit than a coherent story.
To be fair, it’s not random BS. The only problem here is that the author is not writing a linear story but he weaves his story inside a gigantic plot. Usually, we read stories where one plot after the next is revealed but PW is exactly the opposite. Shi Hao has to go through one hurdle after the next to uncover what exactly is the “plot”. If you’re patient enough, you’ll be rewarded in the end where the whole story comes full circle and you’ll suddenly connect all the dots (in fact, you can already start connecting dots now).

No. Haven’t found the time and energy. Been plagued by all sorts of winter bugs. But I wanted to say, Sacred Ruins is actually not that bad. Though I dropped it half way but there’s still some good writings and very good humour in there. I love Chen Dong’s sense of humour in his stories. It’s not very dry but still witty enough to crack a laughter.
Though for me, in terms of humour—the dryer the better. I hate slapstick comedy which is mostly the level of humour TJSS is capable of. And even that, it’s not funny most of the time. Oh.. to answer your previous question, I’ve read >7 of his novels. They’re all in the fast food category.

1.. The foreign realm diverted them cause they also like launched an attack else where, then some elders left to go solve the issues there as leaving the foreign realm take control will be a major blow to them(Nine heavens and Ten earth).

While the ones that stayed set a trap but it didn’t work cause Tianzun already knows ,then turns out they actually came here for a special treasure that can make them instantly win( Rule all upper realm) but to open the place it’s located in they need to resonates their ancestor essence (Yu Mo) then we had a lil backstory ( shi hao and teach was listening at the side with the use of Willow leaf he sneaked in) 😅
3. Anlan /Yu To ( foreign realm top dogs were mentioned) but the particular ancestor essence they needed (he was already dead ) but after hearing what they needed his essence for he got mad but still helped them open the (Ancient forbidden land) and they entered but only after some died at the entrance ( a barrier and huge chunk of immortal blood killed many) before few got in.
4. The arrived and first men the ancient fire Phoenix who was born and raised up in war ( the foreign realm genuines Ye Ziming and the others fought it) also Tianzun,Shi hao and the others also came in the Forbidden land ) Tianzun fought off one blood essence transformation,human dharma body technique of the Phoenix..
5. Foreign realm genuines chased the Phoenix and they arrived at the immortal tomb (guess they just gave up in chasing the Phoenix as to the fake immortal aura emitting from the immortal tomb and the tomb itself will hold treasures ) and finish with some added things about shi hao feeling a call and some other

I said it many times as well, it’s all down to your level of interest. Everyone has their own preferences. Some people prefer straightforward stories with many “in-the-moments” events that are for building up romance or relationship. PW is exactly the opposite. SH does not live in the moment, he lives for the future. Everything that happens in PW leads to the future (or the finale). So, it’s understandable that some people get frustrated along the way. Once you lose interest, your understanding and patience will drop as well. That’s not a criticism to those people, it’s just how some people prefer to have their meat well done while some want it medium-rare or even rare.

Okay, I see why everyone is complaining they are lost. I have the same complaints in my Discord too. But really, sometimes the subs are to be blamed. Animexin is still alright but I know a lot of others (especially on YT), they are utterly atrocious.
So, here’s the explanation, plus a bit of spoilers for those who care to know where they went ‘missing’:
First, there are two border: Crimson Sky Border and Desolate Border (main one). They are now at the former and this is where SH fought HWS and got the Imperishable Scripture some episodes ago. Again, it’s not the same place anymore because remember, he was brought back to the past, otherwise he would not have met HWS, the forefather of He Zeming (the guy holding the cauldron). The cauldron can do many things, it can refine immortals and their blood, and that’s what they were trying to do when they were attacked by a sea of blood.
The first thing that happened is that they received news that the enemies attacked the Desolate Border. So, the group split up because they knew the enemies are not simply here to divert their attention away from the main border. Grand Elder and the youngsters stayed on and true enough those guys are up to no good.
They awakened a long dead Undying King (just remnant of his soul) because they knew he died here in the last great battle. Yes, of course they want to enter another special realm within this Crimson Border because they believe a certain ‘artifact’ is hidden here. So, they ‘threatened’ the dead king with his family members (very subtle) and he had no choice but to cast a seal to open it. Why can he open it? Because he died here and has long been absorbed (or recognised) by the realm and of course, he’s a frigging Undying King.

Once again, the main gist of PW is that SH realises something sinister is going on (like the lanterns that go around copying techniques of the geniuses in the ancient realm back in 3000 provinces). Also the fact that some people seem to have been cursed like Dugu Yun where his golden blood turns to black. The whole story is about him uncovering more and more evidences that a powerful black hand is behind this. All he wants is to become stronger to prevent the same catastrophe that happened in the past to happen again. He knows, if it happens again, the scale will be astronomical. So, everything he does is his conscious effort to make his world a Perfect World for everyone that he loves and cares for.

Though I didn’t finish the second and third book, but the trilogy actually has a very simple theme. It’s all about corruption and pollution of dark matters from a single origin into the universe and how the protagonists are bound by one purpose to purge the darkness from their world.
It’s not a simple journey from zero to hero for the protagonists like most cultivation novels. Their journey didn’t stop when they reach the summit. Just for this trilogy alone, Chen Dong’s writing is leagues ahead of other works of the same genre from other writers.
