Their deaths felt odd almost pointless and Kui could have been a way for demons to have a different path
I thought similarly until I noticed that basically both the precept and empress had massive survivor’s guilt
So yeah I agree in the grand scheme of things it shouldn’t be necessary, but the character psychology/motivation is there
They should keep sending him new demons who help him learn something. The previous one upgraded his painting, and this one upgraded his thunder.
