I just realized something TODAY with how the story is going because of the preview for the next episode and my slight dabbling in the manhwa, wiki and novel.
Meng Chuan in this episode at first only embraces body refinement and Saint of Cangyuan cultivation styles and refuses Demon Lord style but the the Grand Master still forced it on him anyway to see if he could become a Tri-Path cultivator. He didn’t embrace it until he saw the Yan Jin might be permanently crippled in power by saving him from changing.
He said fuck it and went Demon Lord and the preview for next episode shows that Meng Chuan through embracing all three is going to make a new way.
I have been skimming material related to the show and the novel its based on is called Cangyuan Legacy and in that version there is not really a desperation for saints or new cultivation paths but the interesting thing is that Saints in the novel/manhwa are call GODFIENDS. The WHOLE time I was seeing that I thought at first it was just poorly translated then I started to think it was just another change they decided to do for the donghua and I thought they were called that to represent their opposition to the FIENDS/DEMONS but NOW I think its more significant than that!
The words for GOD and FIEND in mandarin are the same for SAINT and DEMON which SHENG and EMO respectively, the translations to English are interchangeable and the subtitle for the upcoming extra episodes says ‘Demon Saint Awakens’, so based on all those clues this is what I think is happening.
Meng Chuan by embracing all three styles of cultivation BUT doing it with the right intentions is going to synthesize a whole new path of cultivation that will get humanity out of the desperate situation they’re in now and the new path that Meng Chuan forged that the Grand Master is talking about is called Demon Saint cultivation OR GODFIEND cultivation and Meng Chuan is going to be the founder of it.
This is why Meng Chuan’s mom did what she did because she found out somehow seeing the future, a new, possibly, better and stronger cultivation method that could save humanity would be born from her son but only if his life went in a specific way and that why she faked her own death and planted an illusion in his mind that made him aware of his primordial soul super early, so that he would have all the training and experience he needed to get to where she saw him going. That’s why its revealed that she apologized to him and said what she was doing was for the future of the cangyuan realm. I just re-watched the last episode of season one and Zhaung Sheng(Meng Chuan’s Primordial Spirit) tells the demon king that thinks he killed her that maybe she did what she did because of the time reversal so maybe it even affected event far into the past and maybe she’s in Yuanchu city right now ready see her son become the founder of a completely new cultivation style.
So after this long ass essay I just wrote, if what I think happens in the upcoming episode, that make the writers of this some of the greatest ever and make all of the changes they made to the story a freaking masterclass effort.
