If you watch closely at the time they tried the fusion skill and previous times in the donghua when it happened previously. there is a golden light that emanates from her forehead. which blocked the fusion in this case. stopped her from talking about god stuff in a previous episode and had other times where it interfered with her life/brain. I think it is not about the current state of their relationship which is blocking the fusion. but her father putting blocks, interfering with his daughters life and relationships, and engineering hardship and other bullcrap to serve his overarching plan for yuhao. its a real annoyance for me in particular how he uses his own daughter as a tool.
