After how slow the donghua has been adapting THIS shit, I caved and found the chapters online and used an AI reader to listen to them in audiobook form and man it was so peak, listening to how strong he gets and how much more confident he gets around women but still only have eyes for Ning Yao and a bunch try to get him roped into some…BUuuuuuuLLSHIT let me tell ya. The events of this episode being this early is so fucked up because after he gets to the SwordQiGreatWall, a sword immortal gives him directions and a method to find a way to rebuild his bridge of immortality and he goes on a long arse solo journey, won’t spoil what happens but its extremely fun, gets the mojarity of his swordsmanshipp experience on this trip and after he’s given the method to rebuild his bridge, there are a efw things that set him up down the road to start building a sect, one of those things is that he get a group of followers who are now going back home with him.
In one of the nations he passes through, he meets a family, does something for them and the oldest son is working with Li Baozhen to do *something* in that nation on behalf of the Great Li empire directed by Cui Chan. But this whole time Li Baozhen has been trying to find ways to kill Chen Ping An and finally the day before Chen Ping An is going to continue his journey home again Li Baozhen knows they’re in the same city right now and wants to roll up on Ping An. The night before he left, Chen Ping An is walking the streets with one of his subordinates and they are on a path right next to a river running through the city and Li Baozhen, the oldest son of that family and this general he travelling with as his body guard are parked in the carriage on the side of the path because Baozhen wants to take another shot and in person this time. At first, it seems like Baozhen wants his bodyguard to do the deed but Ping An guy I think is 1 level of martial arts above him so they start fighting and it now between Ping An and Baozhen, oldest son guy is till in the carriage by the way.
Now this confrontation is significant because Chen Ping An is much more powerful at this point and has done legit scary shit to his enemies in the past, Li Baozhen starts saying that “ah, you’re a powerful martial artist now and I’m just a scholar are you really gonna use your strength against me” while still wanting to kill him and pulls out the talisman that he uses in this episode and trys to summon the big ass puppet to kill Chen Ping An but Ping An uses 1 flying sword to pin the talisman to the carriage. Before the fight starts the oldest son guy in the cart wants to try and get out and its implied he wants play mediator between them but Ping An sends another one of his flying swords right to his face essentially telling him “you stay right there, ain’t no mo’ talkin with this guy” remember he’s met this guy and his whole family and done them a favour. And at this point in the confrontation Li Baozhen can’t do shit, he pulled out the trump card and it got stuffed and its either he has no cultivation or its really low compared to Ping An, so he proceeds to beat the holy dogshit out of Baozhen and the events follow as in the episode, after beating his shit in, he grabs dirt, stuffs it in his mouth and says “I can’t feed you shit right now, but I can feed you dirt” and football kicks him down the street. This whole time Ping An’s martial artist follow is holding back Baozhen’s bodyguard and he loves to fight so he don’t care how bloody he’s getting, the bodyguard is in a much worse state but is ready to sacrifice himself to kill Ping An’s guy but is also begging Ping An to stop.
At this point, Ping An walks upto Baozhen, laid out on the street and finally says “the only reason you’re not dead is for the sake of your sister and your brother asked me to give you one chance if I meet you, this is your one chance” and then he kicks him into the river next to the road, pauses for moment and says “now you can save your master” and starts walking back to their accomodation and his guard follows suit. Li Baozhen’s guard dives in to fish him out and Baozhen as he coming out the water starts trying berate Ping An and is also throughing some stuff related their families histories and why he’s been an arsehole this whole time but Ping An ignores and goes back home.
The reason this event being in season three of this show is so FUCKIN SCUFFED is because Ping An and Baozhen in the novel don’t meet until Ping An is quite a bit more powerful and Baozhen has much more about Chen Ping An to be embarassed and bitter and jealous and angry about and its just that more cathartic when Chen Ping An gives him the business so thoroughly and he really humiliates him and Li Baozhen can now mald that the most unfortunate person in their town beat the everloving dogshit into and out of him and also he’s up now. And to add insult to injury, the powerful ass talisman he never got to use, Chen Ping An takes and then uses it on a semi regular basis in story arcs after this and he even sends some money to their family as wordless gesture to say “yeah, I beat this nigga’s ass to get this but let’s just treat it like a business transaction” which leads to other shit down the line!!!!! OH MY GOSH WHY THE FUCK DID THEY PUT THIS SHIT HERE, when he has barely gotten any stronger and has to struggle to fight this guy whose pretty weak physical and cultivation wise. Man I hate this shit so much, based on how much of a slow burn the donghua is and its actually slower than the novel in terms of pacing even though they adapt multiple chapters to one episode, if they did this shit in order, this event may not have happened until maybe season 5 or 6 but now they’ve put this shit so early what are they gonna do when this moment was supposed to come at the time when the donghua get to that arc. Man I say they really fucked the dog with this decision im so fuckin pissed they did this. I chalk this up to this studio’s tendency to want to make shit much bigger than it is in the novel for no fucking REASON, like the fight of Li Xishen and Cao Jun, in the novel their fight was strictly restricted to the alley and no pocket fuckin dimensions got opened up just for their fight, they were both lvl 7 of qi refining, they can do shit like that and same goes for the situation between Xu Rou, the heavenly lord and Cao Jun’s ancestor or grandpa or whatever, their disagreement never escalated as far as it did in the donghua and something are not depicted anywhere near accurate like thew fox that follows Cao Jun and his elder, whenever they attack her and she dissapates and then comes back, in the novel its much more gruesome. What they do is throw sword qi at her and she gets cut in half and then another time she get cut to pieces and then reforms and then another time ELDER Cao dices her up then dices those pieces, lets her reform, dices her up again, she reforms and then does like three more times before chilling out.
Man as cool as this donghua is the are fuckin up major with the story but I’ll keep watching until something irredeemable happens

As a reader of the novel, in my opinion (compared to Way of Choice, where they messed up), the changes they’ve made are legitimate and even very sensible. They make the story more linear, accessible, and above all, understandable. In the novel, many things are explained in detail only 100, 200, or even more than 400 chapters later, which can be inconvenient for a donghua with a serialization period of 2-3 years.
Compared to the novel (where you have to wait more than 800 chapters to understand the true perpetrators behind the plot to kill Qi Jingchun), here the character of Kou Ming is explained thoroughly. Then, the sentence Cui Chan says to Chen Ping’an on the stairs is explained very well. This is because they deliberately anticipated the conversation between Lu Chen and He Xiaoliang, also briefly explaining the figure of Zou Zi, a cultivator from the 14th realm, of which the protagonist is not yet aware, and this is important for the next season. Even the 27th episode “technically shouldn’t exist” because in the novel it simply says that Cui Grandpa took a step back when he saw the 10 martial artists, thus giving up on reaching the 11th realm. Here, however, they showed a nice fight between him and Lu Chen and also explained why he chose to take that step back, something that in the novel is only understood later (towards the end). They also even showed the ancestor of the military strategists Jiang She, who is the only martial artist in the 11th realm.
As I already wrote in a previous comment, I think they chose to bring forward the confrontation between Chen Ping’an and Lì Baozhen to give the MC a small moment of satisfaction because in these first two seasons he practically doesn’t do anything significant, and the fact that they brought it forward doesn’t change much for the plot. The first two seasons are a long introduction (almost 200 chapters) because the story begins in the third season. In my opinion, the first season wasn’t appreciated by many precisely because it’s rightly difficult to fully understand, so the authors wanted to “spice up” the second season by accentuating and exaggerating the fights. Furthermore, in this episode, the fight between Xie Shi and the others is just a prediction; nothing actually happens in the end.
If we really have to stick to the novel, the upcoming Jian Lai film shouldn’t even exist because in the novel, the events of the film are narrated by Wei Bo (in ep 24), and then throughout the novel, some sporadic information is added about what happened, but still not enough to make a 1 hour and 30 minute film. I think the reason they’re making the film is to explain some of the lore surrounding the Great Wall of the Qi Sword (which is explained in the novel around chapter 700/800, the narrative arc where the adult protagonist wears that red robe) but above all to attract an audience through the figure of A Liang (who, despite not appearing often, is one of the characters we immediately grew fond of) who in this novel is the character who embodies the typical “jianghu” more than anyone else.
