Renegade Immortal novel can be considered as perfect. the pacing, storytelling aura farming everything. while donghua’s pace operates on hyper-fast speed.
The intricate details of how Wang Lin figures out his powers, the deep strategic setups of his fights, and minor world-building details are omitted or simplified. Domestic subplots and side characters are cut to maintain speed.
Renegade Immortal works so well despite the rush. I must praise studio they didn’t mess up the story despite being rushed. . it’s not wrong to say the sheer strength of Er Gen’s writing saves the donghua.
The donghua team recognizes that RI relies on its emotional payoffs. Therefore, while they might skip 10 chapters of cultivation training in 2 minutes, they will slow the pace back down to give proper dramatic weight to a tragedy or a cold-blooded confrontation.

Perfect World
The Perfect World novel by Chen Dong is fundamentally an action-heavy universe. Shi Hao moves from one zone to another, fighting everyone in his path. Because the novel is already so fight-heavy, the donghua adaptation chose to turn the action up to 11.
It entirely strips out the travel times, minor dialogue, and logic gaps to connect Fight A to Fight B. For viewers who haven’t read the novel, Perfect World can quickly become confusing because characters appear, fight, and die with little context.
The studio fundamentally altered the presentation. They stripped out roughly 80% of Chen Dong’s dialogue. the donghua adaptation is fast, but feels hyper-accelerated due to poor execution and relentless skipping of dialouges .
Comparison and Conclusion
If I compare them statistically, the Renegade Immortal (RI) donghua adaptation is incredibly fast—way faster than Perfect World—but it doesn’t feel that way. I don’t know why; maybe their budget or the allotted timeframe for this project is short. But still, they nailed it. The reason is the incredible writing and good execution by the studio.
On the other hand, Perfect World is a very good novel (obviously not on par with RI), but the donghua adaptation is executed poorly. Its pacing is statistically slower than RI, but it feels frantically faster than RI. The studio cuts a massive amount of the story, dialogue, and world-building from the novel. If you haven’t read the book, the plot can feel like a chaotic series of endless fights where side characters appear and disappear with very little explanation.
When I say “statistically,” I mean it—my words are backed by data. I did not make this up. When I was researching, I did not find any existing data, so I had to do it myself. I wrote a Python script to scrape the data from 5 novels, including word counts per chapter, averages, and total word counts. here is proof..

I am novel reader too, and I agree with him somewhat with R.I part about pacing. it could have been better, but it’s very hard to adapt everything exactly from the novel. there would always be some changes in any adaptation.
additionally, R.I episodes are longer than usual donghua (which are typically 14-15 minutes) . each episode is about 18-20 minutes (excluding intro outro).

The fast pace is another reason why i love RI so much. Multiple major plot twists in the first 36 episodes. Episode 36 in particular, changing everything!
Other donghuas would take 200 Episodes or more to reach the same point in the story.

Not sure why everyone is bashing you. I agree that Perfect World’s donghua sucks to the point of having dropped it, since it’s basically fight after fight with barely any transitional scenes and a nearly nonexistent plot (if you’re generous to even call it that).
On then other hand, RI’s donghua has a better plot than Perfect World, but it’s not on the level of RMJI. Most of the time, it’s just MC fumbling around cultivating and reacting to people disrespecting him or trying to kill him, but at least it’s better than plotless Perfect World.

I rate RMJI higher than RI because RI heavy on mass censorship and the fast-pace and skipping/changing of some novel content.
One example of it is during the Teng Family revenge arc, he was a serial killer killing every last Teng down to the children and committing genocide on them, in the donghua it was changed to Teng Huayaun killing them with a reverse formation. I want wang lin to be exactly like his novel counterpart.

In case of RJMI, it’s story is little inferior to RI (novel comparison) but RJMI’s studio has made little changes in the story time to time. they actually made it flawless even surpassed viewers expectations. execution is impeccable.
