Its an adaptation changes are fine as long as it keeps to the spirit of the core story and depending on the changes themself too.

Zi Yan as a Dou Sheng (Fight Saint)?!?!? You be trippin’, my guy! At BEST she’d be a 1-star Ban Sheng (half saint) – I don’t think there’s a single Dou Sheng alive RN if memory serves correctly. Half-Saint have 9 levels and each level upgrade is supposed to be hellish, and the level difference between each star of Ban Sheng is far greater than the level difference between any other fight class – a 1-star Ban Sheng going up against a 2-star is like a Fight King going up against a Fight Ancestor.

I hated that they cut out Medusa and changed XY face. Nothing wrong with the new one but they could have left it for the mc of some up-and-coming big production. That was my Xiao Yan, it might not be the algorithm’ s result for trendy ideal of male beauty but it had personality, the kind that grows on us til it becomes a beloved face.
99% of MCs have the same facial features, it’s like clones of the same guy throughout the animé, donghua and live action industry.

I miss the old Xiao Yan, or rather, his younger self. The Three Year Engagement arc was solid gold–the story was focused, and you felt the stakes. Now it’s like Monster Challenge of the Week, or whatever this is. Very lightweight.
