In the first season we saw Qi jingchun being the “knowing” victim of a conspiracy, enduring a 3000-year-long celestial karma tribulation and being attacked by 2 cultivators (there were 4 of them but if you pay attention only 2 of them attack Qi jingchun) of 13/14 Qi cultivation level (probably 13 lv but I’m not sure) and all to save the little gem world. The conspiracy of which Mr. Qi is a victim is mainly due to the fact that he was trying to unify the three teachings/religions Confucianism, Taoism and Buddhism, many have tried but Qi jingchun was the one who came closest to achieving this result, therefore “someone” did not want him to do it so they waited for the celestial tribulation (I repeat, 3000 years of karma with lots of fateful opportunities) to arrive to attack in 4 (I repeat only 2 of these attack him) but in reality if things had gone badly also another character (that we saw in the first season and that we will see again in this one) would have acted against Qi Jingchun, and in all this Qi jingchun HAS CHOSEN not to react limiting himself to protecting the small gem world with 2 of his “native characters” (these native characters [by native character I refer to the “Chinese ideograms”] are as if they were “weapons” that a Confucian scholars give life through a particular cultivation path and have particular and unique powers. Usually, scholars give life to a birth character, but Mr. Qi has shown two (for now 😊 the character “Jing” and the character “Chun” (as you may have understood, birth characters come from the name, so I recommend you especially consider surnames and look for the meanings of the characters’ names). Obviously, if a person has a name that has 3,000 characters, it doesn’t mean they will develop 3,000 birth characters😂.
Personal advice: for now, regarding these first two seasons, and especially the first, don’t get hung up on the details, but try to limit yourself to understanding the big picture because you WILL HAVE to go back and watch it again anyway because you’ve missed too many details (starting from these 20 seconds of the first season, you’ll understand once the movie comes out) that will only be explained in detail 800 chapters later. I’d like to tell you more, but I don’t know how to do spoiler tags. iPhone.
So let’s start with the concept of “state of mind,” which is a lot. In Jian Lai, in the race to reach the highest levels of cultivation (which in the novel is called “the quest for the GREAT DAO”), each cultivator must come to terms with their own state of mind and remain faithful to their “philosophy/life principles” (I think in the novel it’s called ONE’S OWN DAO HEART). For a cultivator, the state of mind must be CLARITY. By “clarity,” we don’t mean pure/good at heart (because a cultivator can be a piece of shit, but if they’re in tune with themselves or believe they’re not doing anything wrong, then they’re fine), but rather, clarity means the absence of doubts/troubles/unresolved past issues. Among these troubles is also betraying one’s principles, which leads the cultivator to significantly doubt themselves.
This is why in the first season, Ning Yao tells Chen Ping’an to accept the money and the manual. Gu Can’s box because if Chen Ping’an were to continue living a difficult life, Gu Can would most likely develop regrets. And that’s why, in the first season, Song Changjing (Song Jixin’s uncle) told Chen Ping’an that he would help him if he burned the black locust tree in the city center and/or kidnapped the little girl who came with the monkey Yuan Shan. When Song Changjing asks his nephew if Chen Ping’an would do that, Song Jixin replies that “if Chen Ping’an did that, then he wouldn’t be Chen Ping’an,” meaning Chen Ping’an would do something against his conscience. The reason Song Jixin’s uncle does this is the same reason the empress wants Chen Ping’an dead. In the first season, in one of Prince Song Jixin’s memories, we see that he lied to Chen Ping’an, making him break one of the promises he made to his mother, namely to “never work at the porcelain kiln,” so Chen Ping’an would be killed. Ping’an, out of anger, almost killed him by strangling him but waited until he was alone (without the maid and this is because Chen Ping’an is very intelligent and perceptive but not having received a solid education is simply ignorant) which is why Song Jixin is upset because if he were in his place he would have humiliated him in front of everyone, furthermore he is upset by the figure of Chen Ping’an himself because both grew up without parental figures by their side (initially Song Jixin does not know who her real parents are), however Song Jixin is not poor unlike Chen Ping’an who despite being poor still seems to be able to enjoy life and appreciate tomorrow.

In the first season, when Qi Jingchun reveals the secret of the native porcelain to Chen Ping’an, Mr. Qi also says that it was orchestrated by “a person from the capital” and that he shouldn’t think about it for now (the reason is very similar to the reason why he stops him from killing Fu Nanhua).
Liang was one of my favourite characters in the series. Good to finally see how he has been modelled.
