yep true! i’m so excited with this episode such i wrote an essay fr. haha! in any case, you’re right.. they got lucky… but qin mu also got injured. honestly the last few scenes of the fight is a bit confusing though.. i felt like it’s a flashback but it might be not. do you feel that way also, or it’s just me?

well i rarely write essays for some donghua, like this one. at least not as frequent as PW, STH and RMJI. so i think my argument is valid still haha.. ehm that dude get killed? who? daozi? ok.. so, he’s daozi, he’s six direction realm, and very strong, not easy to be killed even in all out battle. plus there’s dan yangzi. dan yangzi being cocky over there only meant that he’s at least life death or celestial bridge level. so yeah qin mu is strong but not that strong yet. he’s only at five elements realm. not until he reconstruct his cultivation realms or treasuries and becoming way too strong, out of the standard.
Who else am I talking about fam of course that Daoist dude hahaha. I mean our boi didn’t really showed everything he had in this episode, we know he was holding back fam.

all-in-all, i must praise ToHG for staying true to the source. unbelievable guys! don’t u see, sometimes, staying true to the source can make things as spectacular as well. idk about u guys but the intricacies of today’s episode and the fight scene is so spectacular.
first is that after detecting ill intent of the so-called senior brother, qin mu heard a full sentence comment from imperial preceptor. in comparison, novel preceptor only said “it’s interesting”. that’s it.
and next is “wandering sword form” in novel it’s fan-translated as “swim sword form” i guess translation here might be better in that regard. and it makes so much sense as well.
lastly “drill sword form”, keep drilling using a sword like auger/bor/borer/drill. in any case, u got the point. this is literally impossible if you use hands as the handle, so it must be the so-called vital thread as the handle for this type of technique.
nice point there from elder of dao sect, whose name i totally don’t remember.. ok it’s dan yangzi and the dao child is named lin xuan. lol.. but back again, they’re training a specialist kind of talent, not industrial worker (copycat-mooncake) talent. they’re right but they’re overflattering themselves. there are stages in education, general and special. i guess imperial college has yet to emphasize the special kind of education part in their regards. in any case, we’re waiting for their development, hopefully by throwing out bad fruit kind of officials.
yes.. qin mu and that chen guy are indirectly encouraging each other! and that little detail over there. ling yuxiu is sleepy but checking up on cowherd boy who just put the small fox hu ling’er into sleep. i mean, qin mu got that habit of training overnight and sinking into sleepwalking state. that’s how he got his current achievements! he’s not some kind of genius that’s otherworldly. he’s a hardworking and diligent person!
so.. imperial preceptor –> state teacher, grand chancellor –> imperial dean. not bad choice i guess. it’s not like i can judge on this. but in any case this is just a small dictionary for me. yep only one or two, which is qin mu and si yunxiang! the others are working in progress status. ooof those old men are truly reminiscing old times. and he truly wants to change the world while questioning the existence of immortals and gods. well sadly, there are those kind of beings but they only bring disaster and fear, instead respect and heartfelt adoration. only some brainwashed people will truly submit to these kind of beings. remind me again of the great struggle in this story.
and qin mu goes off to meet imperial dean. he was trying to praise state teacher but he got caught by imperial dean trying to get some kind of practical reward before actually trying to fight for the academy. so.. he got pushed off…! that’s totally unexpected and fun tbh.
finally, onto the fight, the dan yangzi guy has sharp eyes, he saw qin mu’s sword is special so he proposed hand-to-hand combat, ofc with vital qi weapon isn’t impossible. and so it begins! qin mu is unleashing various kinds of arts, his opponents counter as well. the fight got peaked when both of them are finally using swords! can gods and devils be cut? CAN! damn, so peak it’s unbelievable. and they continue the narration with poetic stuff that can be interpreted as skill mantra or something.
the important thing is that battle was ended with qin mu winning! it’s a bit different from novel impression. in novel, he got a close win. but here, it seems that he can use his left shoulder weakness as a bait. hmm it’s such an understatement but qin mu did it. maybe qin mu in donghua is smarter? well.. who knows? but pretty sure that he got injured there..
so, in the end, everyone is celebrating and become somewhat complacent. but luckily the big mouth ba shan was able to throw cold water and turn everyone back into reality. it’s because of state teacher they won. and that guy who got beat up by qin mu tried to retaliate in argument. luckily imperial dean come and confirm ba shan’s words. damn..
so.. very.. exciting!

Also how did the fight differ in the novel? Did he still lose but the Dao sect acknowledged the Grand Academy regardless?

haha.. it’s awkward but at the end qin mu knows that he’s not an overlord body. it’s just a kind of faith that he’s invincible, which drives him to work harder than usual. i think later he realized it when he almost died.
well daozi still lose for sure and they acknowledge academy, but they hvn’t realized that qin mu is just a newbie until some point of time. as for how the fight might differ, i think u can just read the novel. this episode should be from ch. 136 to 138. with the fight from 137 to 138. so it’s not long. unlike PW donghua, they actually summarize 18 chapters in 1 episode. too rushed.
btw if anyone is confused about the scene on the credit regarding a mapping of points in human body. it’s a cultivation system map. they’re called treasuries of human body. u can check them in wiki, ascending order: mortal – spirit embryo – five elements – six directions – seven stars – life and death – celestial bridge. in any case, just add divine treasure to each name and u’ll get it. this is the oldest cultivation system in ToHG world.
Looks like I need to do some extra translation this episode…

I really liked that Dao Successor guy, truly deserves his own story and Donghua, such a well written character and skills, catching the essence of Yin & Yang, sending enemy’s attacks using balance back to them.
We do not know how Qin Mu managed to send those attacks back once again, it is probably written in the novel in detail, haven’t caught up to it yet. So far we haven’t seen him showing signs of such a deadly power. That felt like a plot armor to me.
Fam, this was a very good fight the techniques and the choregraphys too.
It was ironic that the guy thought he could defeat Qin Mu by revealing his weakness.
He could have not say anything about it, Qin Mu would notice that he is focusing too much on the weakness.
It’s a shame that the other students didn’t see the fight.

I don’t know about yall – but what a beautiful fight. The artwork, the brushwork really made me think back to Deaf Grandpa’s artwork fight. I also loved the subtle use of “breathing” during this fight, especially with the Dao Successor, he would take these subtle deep breaths as he’s weaving the yin-yangs and that was really pleasant to experience too.
