So a lot actually happens in these few episodes, that is tied to the main story and ending. There will be spoilers while explaining what happened and why, please read with caution;
Ancestral Master Daozang (which is also one of the six reincarnating masters) will take a single student now. He will ask Nie Li first, but he will refuse, and Demon Lord will become his disciple instead. (MAJOR power up for Demon Lord)
By the way while entering inside Nie Li uses his own cultivation and his own technique to pass through, which is even stronger than Daozang’s technique, therefore it let him pass. You can see Nie Li’s technique’s “Yin Yang” symbol lingering on the circle/gate for a while even after he passes through.
Also Master Daozang has one of the pages of Temporal Demon Spirit Book. He refuses to give it to his new Disciple Demon Lord as a welcome gift, (in fear that it will pull Sage Emperor’s attention to him). When Nie Li shows he already has 2 other pages of the same Book, since it will not increase the risk more, he gives it to Nie Li. Which is infinitely more important than becoming Daozang’s disciple.
