ehm wu shi or without beginning is a great emperor from era of STH. actually u can type wu shi in shrouding the heavens wiki. they put general info on his profile, like his birth and so on. like he’s the child of a great completion sacred body (quasi emperor 9th heavenly layer – half step great emperor) and western mother empress (great emperor). western mother great empress is the founder of yaochi holy land.

he’s also the first innate sacred body according to hei huang. basically his body type can only be born via ancient desolate sacred body and innate dao fetus body. it’s a type of a very powerful body, let’s just say overpowered for convenience – only this type of body can cultivate wu shi scripture. in short, wu shi is a genius and overpowered. this is the reason to why hei huang wanted ye fan to marry zi xia even if it’s only for getting a child. even jiang taixu suggested this at some point. but we know that people hate this idea even if it can birth a second wu shi and cultivate wu shi scripture.

in short, his feats are numerous but somehow only some important people heard his prowess and know his name. other than ruthless, who is most famous for her ruthlessness. he is one of the greatest great emperor of human race, basically reigning undefeated during his lifetime. he repels archaic creatures and prevented the rise of dark calamity. basically, wu shi is invincible and feared when he reigned.

dark calamity is basically when those past great emperors, especially from other races like holy spirit (natural heaven and earth creature birthed from stone, metal, etc) and archaic creatures (dragon, phoenix, qilin, and many other mythical races), woke up from their sleep and start feasting. basically they will slaughter people from several different planets and suck their lifeforce in order to lengthen their pitifully short lifespan.

these great emperors are called great emperor bcs they left their mark on the heaven – i think it might be called heaven core imprint in PW. i forgot what is it called in STH. basically this is the mark that suppress ten thousand dao or something. in order to surpass this suppression, ye fan fought against ten thousand great dao and broke through great emperor level for real. even though at that time there already was a great emperor of golden crow race. but this is a matter of the future from the perspective of the current discussion.

as we know, wu shi great emperor chose purple mountain as his “last resting place” and put his bell inside, his scripture and some other stuff, although the place was crowded with many archaic creatures. the reason is this place is the nest of the follower of undying heavenly emperors. there are only two people witnessing the “last moments of his life” and guarded him faithfully. they are one human great sage (forgot his name) and hei huang.

hei huang was picked by wu shi when he was young. there are others sealed inside such as zhang lin. but zhang lin was already half-crazed and plagued by the red stuff unique to heavenly source master. remember zhang lin is 4th generation and ye fan is like.. 6th? and jiang taixu was sealed for some time as well inside purple mountain. jiang taixu was only supreme king at that time and he was supposed to die if not for the protection of that great sage. only from his protection that jiang taixu manage to level up to saint level even though he was sealed for a long time.

another place that wu shi played his hand with is the sacred cliff. this place is the place where he put his other divine artifact called investiture of the gods, which is used as a decree to represent his own presence to suppress creatures that are similar to gods and can’t be killed such as undying daoist and probably many others.

there are notable incidents where hei huang remembers about wu shi great emperor. such as his bed being the chaos stone. yes the chaos stone that was pitifully represented in donghua. and he passed by ancient desolate forbidden region and said something like, “you are waiting in the mortal world…” basically confirming that wu shi knows that ruthless is alive inside and is still waiting for her brother’s reincarnation, which is why she insisted to stay in the mortal world and refuse to become immortal. lastly is the incident that was only known when hei huang, ye fan and others ventured into undying mountain and saw the palm exchanged in the dao comprehension tree via river of time. i think the remnant signs are showing that they competed once but indirectly. cuz they, ruthless and wu shi, never actually meet in flesh until ye fan ascend to immortality and forcefully open immortal domain. there might be more but i guess these are related to the stuff that are already covered in donghua past episodes.

finally, there is a controversy whether wu shi is dead or not. after all, according to hei huang, great emperor wu shi is invincible, no one matches him during his lifetime, not even those who were sleeping inside forbidden regions. during a certain incident, they even checked his platform with great difficulty only to find his remnant turning into ashes, which greatly suggested that he has passed away. according to hei huang, wu shi refused to surrender to fate and he induced himself into a questionable state. afterwards, no one knows exactly whether he lived or died.

but.. afterwards, there were some signs that wu shi might not be dead. turns out that wu shi bell (his main artifact that he left on beidou’s purple mountain), suddenly left the place and launched himself against a blob of flesh in the mars or ancient mars and this happens after dark calamity in ye fan’s era. yes that mars planet that’s close to earth guys. so during one time, ye fan used his green lotus (initially thought to be an irregular phenomena like immortal king descends from nine heavens, etc), which turns out to be part of azure emperor new body (from demon race), to support the bell against the blob of flesh.

and finally he threw away the mars planet into an empty place in galaxy since the commotion can damage the surrounding planets and replace mars with an identical planet. at that time, ye fan is already quasi emperor 6th heavenly layer if i remember correctly. and btw that blob of flesh is actually undying heavenly emperor’s body part, clone or something similar. or maybe it’s another red dust immortal that followed undying heavenly emperor faction, i forgot. the point is, it’s an enemy.

in any case, there might be more signs pertaining to the fact that great emperor wu shi is alive and has already ascended to immortality. honestly, it’s quite puzzling how he did that.. according to wiki:

Wú Shǐ [无始大帝] (Without Beginning Scripture) – Term is 112,000 before. [Human race]

so, we know for sure that Ye Fan lived life after life and endured for 550k years before attaining eternal life (check wiki Ye Fan/Cultivation) and he still practiced another 170k years before he truly attacked the immortal domain. After all, he is already immortal at his 550k years. But point is between Ye Fan and Wu Shi there are only like 112k years. It makes no sense whatsoever that Wu Shi managed to ascend to immortality that fast.

My guess is like this (pretty sure it’s quite accurate): since undying heavenly emperor also disappeared from the world and recorded to have ambushed many other great emperors, we can assume that he’s also in progress to become immortal and he’s also ambushing other great emperors definitely to steal their dao fruit or something like that, basically in order to lengthen his life – nine turns nirvana. Assuming the same thing, Wu Shi realized this scheme of undying heavenly emperor early and disappeared from the world as well. He also lived life after life in order to ascend to immortality. But since Wu Shi is a latecomer, it is amazing that he managed to catch up with undying heavenly emperor and finally engaged in a deadlock until before the final battle. In short, before the final battle, Wu Shi and Undying has already achieved immortality via Red Dust Immortal path, which is living life by life in order to achieve immortality in the mortal world.

Btw, Bu Si (undying) is only one of the schemers who ambushed other great emperors for immortality. Di Zun (venerable emperor), teacher of Bu Si who was thought to have died in the hands of Bu Si. moreover, Di Zun is a student of Ming Zun (cao’s 2nd life, whose 4th life is Duan De). Di Zun faked his death and prepared to make the universe his cauldron in order to achieve immortality or rather to open immortal domain. Either way, his life work was failed by Ye Fan, Ruthless and Duan De.

yes in shi hao’s world there is no one called wu shi since the guy is from the future. but.. there is a big BUT here… since future wu shi is probably immortal king or half immortal emperor, he managed to left his mark on the place related to Kun Peng nest. Check ch. 1763 – back to kun peng nest and ch. 1764-1765 – Frozen World. Wu Shi bell appeared for the first time and managed to freeze the time surrounding the area. it’s probably just a remnant mark of the bell but it’s still very powerful. i kinda forgot the details of this part but it would be amazing if u read it urself.

moreover, he (wu shi) also managed to cross the river of time as shi hao was fighting the four half-immortal emperors together with ye fan and ruthless (ofc three of them are half-immortal emperors) in order to block three half-immortal emperors who are hostile to shi hao/huang. basically he is there during the final fight. and yes. ye fan’s face is unseen and shrouded by clouds or something basically it is blurry because of karma force that entangles him and huang. so yea.. even without the so-called karma, ruthless’ face is supposed to be blurry as well in PW. that’s like representation of her mightiness. her face can’t even be seen by her opponent which is undying king (the equivalent of immortal king).

even though there is no wu shi (without beginning).. we know that there is an immortal king called wu zhong (without end) and his dao artifact is also a bell. yes.. a bell and he got a freakin puppy that followed him which character is same as the bastardy hei huang. it’s said that the puppy liked to bite cao yusheng ever since he was accidentally awaken from his sleep in the grave. remember hei huang liked to bite duan de. the puppy was a true immortal, but his dao body got broken, no longer as powerful. he was a loyal follower of wu zhong immortal king. check immortal king wuzhong in the PW wiki. although this is more like fan theory but it is generally accepted by fans that wu shi is the reincarnated wu zhong.
