Especially the part with Xu Xin, the background, her haircut and even her clothes have changed compared the the previous cutscene, she had her hair down, now they are tied.

Nope, telescopes are not even comparable. Cultivators are doing radial spiritual sensing – i.e. in all 720 (solid angle) degrees. While a telescope only does a ray projection discovery – i.e. beaming light in one direction only (Hubble covers only 0.0001 degrees at a time for example). So covering a billion kilometers radially is truly mind boggling.
More comparable is radar and even using most cutting edge technology, I think the limit is max to max 10,000 km (for full 720 deg detection of a football sized object in say within 10s).
