true enough, it’s japanese name. probably the fan translator use it for the sake of looking cool or different. or maybe the guy’s a japanese, who knows. it’s like putting an additional ornament anyways. i mean vermillion bird is called suzaku in japan or jujak in korea and zhuque in china. but it remains as fire element bird with red color. the so-called 14th generation of zhuquezi doesn’t have any special name from the author to be taken note of. in fact zhuque zi is more like a title, not a name. that begs a question what is the meaning of yunque zi. in short, the planet is called vermillion, and the greatest defender is called son of vermillion.

The story use Zhuque Zi as both the title Vermillion Successor as well as Zhuque Zi (the character) takes upon himself the title as his name – in contrast with his Junior as Yunque Zi. The issue is about both correctness and consistency and Zhuque Zi (the character) doing this is not making it easy for us.
I think Zhuque = Vermillion = Suzaku is the correct translation. Also the word Zi technically means Son, but Vermillion Son sounds kinda weird. I did check the dictionary, Zi can also mean Successor. So when Ye Wuyou asks Wang Lin: “Do you want to be the next Zhuque Zi” I agree, it should be translate as “Do you want to be the next Vermillion Successor.”
The problem is Zhuque Zi uses the title as his name and let go of his original name. So I think in respect with the Pinyin, I believe in cases when that word is used as his name, we should respect that as his name and use Zhuque Zi. For example: in episode 102 at 8:31, Yunque Zi shouts out “Zhuque Zi”, he really uses that as his name rather than the title, so I’d keep that part as “Zhuque Zi”, just like we don’t translate “Wang Lin” to “Forest King” right? or Ye Wuyou as “Careless Leaf” that’s just silly, “Ye Wuyou – Leaf Not Worries”.
Not to mention if we are going to call him Vermillion Bird Son, the other one Yunque Zi gotta be called “Cloudy Bird Son”. So when one yells hey “Vermillion Bird Son”, the other says “Hey Cloudy Bird Son”, imagine how the viewer feels. XD
Zi can also mean “person,” and was used in many philosophers’ names, like Kongzi (Confucius). It can also be equivalent to a respectful title like “master;” for example XunZi = Master Xun.
Thank you for your care with consistency. I recently saw a section of an episode that wasn’t translated and I checked in several other sites to try and fill the gap but it’s missing everywhere. That planted a seed of doubt in me about the source of translation here. It’s reassuring to read this, it shows that you put in the work.
This will be one of the less than 10 times we’ll ever hear of Zhuque Zi or the Suzaku of Suzaku planet(Vermillion planet)… the boat has mostly sailed, but I advocate for translations to go hand in hand with the “official” RI wiki fandom.
Most terms are pretty consistent with the rest of the novel to the end in that wiki. Example not immortal jade but celestial jade because you are getting celestial energy of which is consistent with the celestials of the immortal Astral continent of where the Celestial Sovereign Su Dao is from. Ancient Dao cultivators in that continent will also be immortals but be in contention with the celestials in the Immortal Astral Continent. Tian Yunzi the All-Seer. Demon continent. etc…
What am trying to say is that animexin does not have to “reinvent” the wheel. There are consistent translations from the novel & a pretty elaborate wiki from the fandom and I’d appreciate going with them.
