i hate to say it…but su baiye just does NOT move with urgency. it’s a little baffling to watch but it’s true to his character – he’s a light hearted child who in a different world would be the class clown. but it’s almost he has no concept of death…or things worse than death?
i’m thinking of homie from renegade immortal – now THAT is an MC who moves with urgency. every action he took even before his clan got massacred was full of desperate knowledge that if he doesn’t do his BEST his enemies will unleash their worst. And not just on him but everyone around him. Wang Lin could be vicious because he took those lessons from life to understand ‘oh…if i don’t get serious about finishing my enemies, they will take everything from me.’
su baiyi is the opposite. like…the most childish MC we’ve ever seen despite being on orphan because he seems to not fully understand that (a) death means permanency and; (b) there ARE things worse than instant permanent unaliving. i can’t tell if he’s just that simple or if he truly believes in his hear that things always work out for the better lol that’s also why i’m pretty sure someone close to him is going to die – because he simply won’t understand until he experiences grief himself.
