I think using his own blood was his original idea, but halfway through he got greedy and violated the mystery pryer maxim… The part on acting applies for both advancement and corruption – acting right would allow you to advance, while deviating would make you go corrupted. So neil turning into monster has shown that he had indeed harmed someone

No, the blood he used was all his, he did not harm anyone. The thing is with the acting method, you need to understand the maxims (plural) of the sequence. Yes, he abided with ‘do no harm’, but acting as a mystery pryer’s doesn’t imply just that one principle. It’s not enough to get to the next sequence.
Also his corruption was not really his fault. He got enticed by

‘Ghost head girl’ is Daly Lv/Seq 7 Spirit Medium of the Corpse Collector pathway. Re-watch ep 1 and you’ll she her there. The reason you don’t see her after ep1 was because she got transferred from Tingen (the current city) to Backlund (the capital) since she found out about the acting method and the Church promoted her to essentially shush her up.
There aren’t any ‘corruptors’ it’s not like it’s a virus/bacteria. He just lost control for listening to the wrong entity.

Season 2 is scheduled to premiere in 2027. The season will consist of 30 episodes and will adapt Volume 2 of the novel series. The anime is also planned to have a total of six seasons and 3 movies(?) to conclude the story.

What an emotional episode. I’m speechless. We didn’t even have time to celebrate Klein’s advancement.
So they’re limiting knowledge so people don’t speed through ranks and become derailment risks, but also to keep control. Seems dodgy. How insane is it that they sent a Seq4 [demigod] level oversee this.
This was so sad. Neil knew they couldnt let him god which made it even sadder, after he was the last of his og crew, because “He” seems to of derailed the rest gradually. But “He” still didnt manage to turn him into a true monster [remember we heard that the alchemy line last was an evil one for murder and testing on people], and Neil refused to do that till his very end.
Bit upset we didnt get to see more of Klein using his new seq8 Clown stuff though.
We will still see our boi do some more cool stuff eventually fam. This donghua will have many season coming up after all.

Over hyped
Not many book deviations this time. The one I can think of are:
I see a lot of people are confused on why Old Neil got corrupted. The book directly tells you in the same chapter he got shot, so it’s not really a spoiler imo. It is not because he didn’t follow the ancient Moses Ascetic Order’s maxim (the sect that has the entire Mystery Pryer pathway’s potion formulas) of ‘Do no harm’ but rather he started listening to the whispers of the evil entity that governs the Mystery Pryer’s pathway, Hidden Sage, for the resurrection and Alchemical Life rituals.
As for why Old Neil never advanced beyond Lv/Sequence 9 for 20 years, it was because he didn’t know about the acting method and never tried new things to figure the rest of the principles/maxims that govern Sequence 9 of Mystery Pryer. The show doesn’t tell you, but each sequence/Lv have different principles/maxims to fully digest their corresponding sequence potion. For example, the principles of digesting the Seer potion are different than the Clown potion.
Another problem is the Nighthawks only have the complete pathway for Sleepless. Even if Old Neil unknowingly acted as a Mystery Pryer and had randomly tried stuff to get the principles down. They don’t have the Lv/Sequence 8 potion for the Mystery Pryer pathway iirc. He was screwed either way.

Old Neil had too many red flags 😞 🚩
• praying for money; it’s not exactly evil but is taboo in the spiritual world
• the derailment the previous episode, he had filled the man’s flask with a potion, allegedly beneficial;
• the man was following the pregnant woman allegedly victim of a con artist (money? or is it about the unborn baby?)
• old age, regrets, ill health, failure to advance: the need of strict adherence to rules – the difference between success and corruption. His rule of “do no harm” sent him obsessing
• the desolate state of his house previously, the hopeless music he plays, drained of life, and its fast degradation into hellscape
• the black aura in him and glimpses of something dark attached (sending him to the wrong path),
• a stingy man invites everyone for dinner, and wants to know in advance what they’ll eat and drink
God, this episode made me cry. I really believe he never hurt anyone and used his own blood, though the ritual demands large quantities from living creatures.
I’d gratefully have let Old Neil go, to pursue his dearest wish but there’s no coming back from what he’d become, it’d only get worse.
Even if he’d succeeded in binding his dead wife’s soul with a body, she wouldn’t be herself anymore. Breaking of a taboo would curse him forever. The thing that he summoned thing would demand maintenance with an eternal chain of horrendous crimes against the natural order.
I believe that executing him at this point was not only a mercy but it saved his soul, even if his body integrity is gone. He hadn’t hurt anyone YET. We witness a horrific inner struggle and his love for his companions. Repeatedly asking them to go back but allowing them to get closer despite the warnings and that showed a horrific inner struggle.
The Captain deserves a honourable mention. He was admirable in keeping his cool, never forcing them on Old Neil’s home or presence, remaining calm, wholeheartedly acknowledging the older man’s merits, refraining from accusations and agreeing with anything he said. They were very close, this gotta have been incredibly painful.

In the book he was nowhere this big, and strong. He was more like a sad pile of flesh on the ceiling, not this huge eldrich monster that covers the entire house.
