Source Difference

• 1) The first scene with the court and Klein’s attendance never happened and it doesn’t make any sense because:

• Members of the Demoness sect would not openly use their charm in a government building where the Orthodox churches’ official Beyonders would be watching. It would be equivalent to being raided by today’s ICE.

• The widow of the Mayor did not get charmed because she was the one that issued a case to the Blackthorn Security Company (front of Tingen City Nighthawks) to surveil on Lady Sharon.

• Also, it makes no sense in the show for Lady Sharon to pass hair outside like that. As a Demoness sect member, they use blood, flesh and hair to hex people to death, they know better than anyone than to throw away their hair like that O.o

• 2) The investigation into Lady Sharon was initially done by Klein alone since it was just a civilian case. Eventually, he divines from the space above the fog that Lady Sharon was a beyonder, but he doesn’t know which pathway or LV/Sequence.

• Knowing Lady Sharon was a beyonder, Klein opted to investigate her residence via messenger summon ritual using the Fool’s name aka his own spirit (think of it as his ghost form). The great thing about the summoning ritual is he can cancel his summon–his summon/ghost mode–at any time and arrive above the fog without delay in case anything happens to him with his inventory intact. This lets him investigate without being there personally and any civilians like maids/butlers working at the residence don’t notice him. Beyonders can still see his summon mode if they toggle their spirit vision. He can still take damage spiritually in summon mode, but like I said he can just cancel and instantly escape back to the fog before that happens. It’s only useful for scouting for now.

• 3) Unlike the show, the safe in the residence was actually booby trapped. Makes sense, what kind of beyonder wouldn’t booby trap their safe right? But as a summon/ghost, he can just pass through the wall of the safe and look inside, which he did and he found photographic proof and a small statue figure of the Primordial Demoness that she was a beyonder so he can report to Chief Dunn Smith and obtain help. The secret room with the statue didn’t exist.

• 4) The book didn’t mention the Saintess of White being in Tingen at the time. Just a FYI Saintess of White

is a Seq/LV 2 (thousand+ year old beyonder) Unaging of the Assassin pathway. Imagine a final quarter game boss at the beginning of the story.

• 5) Damaging the statue during the fight with Lady Sharon did not harm her. The statue only has 2 effects: anti-divination/early warning and suppress afflictions like a Nightmare’s sleep.

• Do note the fight was LV8 Clown (of Seer path) Klein + LV9 Sleepless Kenley + LV7 Nightmare (of Sleepless path) Dunn vs LV6 Pleasure (of Assassin path) Sharon.

• Klein was a lot more nimble with his acrobatics which was annoyed his enemies and his Clown’s foresight/prediction ability was more active in the novel.

• The citizens weren’t affected/charmed during the fight.

• In the book, Sharon actually turned invisible and wanted to run away after Kenley died since she wasn’t sure if reinforcement (from the other official Beyonder factions like Mandated Punisher or Machinery Hivemind) were coming. He predicted she might run so he slinged multiple Tarot cards at the door & window exits nailing her hair using Clown’s intuition. Seeing that, Dunn actually does sleep again and Klein rolls over to the mirror and shone in on her. The mirror made her turn skin turn into gross pus and she wrapped herself into a cocoon to recover. She breaks out the cocoon and Dunn uses his sleep again and Klein just keeps firing & reloading his pistol at her forehead using Clown’s ability to calmly control his aim until she died.

• Dunn actually ask Klein to check up on the maids and butlers in the residence after the fight as an excuse for time to consume Kenley. Klein returns without saying anything and see his act because he did not know if any of the civilians were faking unconsciousness so he was about to ask Dunn to check using his Nightmare abilities.
