i did not .. i never liked anime (no moving) and still dont..
i was tired watching kungfu / wuxia dramas for 20+ years, earl 2000s only shitty dramas came out of china until i saw qins moon .. i liked this anime .. later i learned it was donghua and looked for similar type of stories and were watching on goodanime site since then hooked up.. now i am not even keen on real live action dramas

From my experience anime dominates the Market for many reasons, one of the biggest reasons is it appealing to a wider range of audience, like having Western themes.
Donghua have chinese themes that only targets chinese audience, while anime targets the entire global audience since the 1900s. There are so many different types that everyone has at least 1 favourite.
Even the normies watch anime like Attack of Titan, DBZ, Pokemon, One Piece, etc..
I mean even Netflix made a live-action One Piece series.
Also anime is inherently cute and people no matter where like to watch cute things.

Also Anime has just been around a lot longer.
I guarantee that most people here on Xin, at one point came from watching anime and transitioned into donghua.
