Are they though? They are a clone of his personality. So if original guy would buy a red car, the clone would also buy a red car if given the choice.

The goal for the original is the same as for the clones. Thats the entire idea behind doing this cloning technique.
You could also call them Infiltrators or Agents of his Will. So no one can suspect him being an Ancient God. The perfect disguise to fool them all.

This is not a Full Metal Alchemist situation, where the clones become different aspects like greed, hate and gluttony etc. who just do wtf they want. They are basically, still Wang Lin.
