She’s a person who gave up much for her son, but also failed to protect him and didn’t grow to learn what he wanted nor respect his choices. This kind of forceful parent combined with a father who takes a “hand off & let your mother decide” approach are the worst combo for a child’s agency. They will not listen nor will they compromise they just decide and let the rest of the fall out happen later.

Never mind these two are basically enemies and have a strong antagonism towards each other as well as history. In addition Shi Hao has always seemed to be in love with the Fire Kingdom princess. This is a terrible moral and parental failing of Shi Hao’s dedication to finding, saving, and always respecting and longing for the love of his parents. Very sad truly.
